I have an '84 944. They're better than the 924's, but any old porsche you get is gonna be maintence. I've dumped over $5,000 in repairs only on that car. Unless you know alot about fixing cars up, I wouldn't recommend getting one. But if you're really set on getting one, try local listings in your area first. You can also go to Carsoup (that's where I got my 944 for $3200 @only 75,000miles). Check out a website like 924.org and go to 924 discussion. There are forms you can look at. one is titled cars and parts wanted/for sale. You've got a good bet finding one there for around $1500-3000. Hope that helps

I know several "good deals" on 924's but personaly I don't like any 924 .
I have a 1983 944 non turbo for sale. priced at about 2500. I feel the best bang for your buck is a 944s or turbo.
The 944s is a consistant winner in class at pro solo autocross events. Is also a very reliable car when services are done properly.
If you don't know what you are looking at I would NEVER buy a cheep porsche!
As I promise repairs will add up to more than cars value.
Just buy a well serviced car that has been inspected by a Porsche tech and you will be fine.

Here's a little secret...look for a 1986-87 version called the 924S
It WAS a 944 in 924 clothing, and all the upgrades the earlier 924's did not have. It even had a higher top speed than the 924 because of less aero drag.
SHOP around the internet....

check cars.com
just a suggestion, the early 944's are low priced and you'd probably be happier with it...
