How much gas is the human body capable of retaining before letting it out in a fart?

Generally guys fart more than girls. I heard that this is due to the fact that girls can't shut up long enough to build up the required pressure!!

Ok.... maybe its also that we have more ladies than gentlemen, but as a general rule, gas trapped in the body can come out as a fart or a burp depending on where it is at that moment, and it is not only methane. Sometimes whem you swallow your food or drink with a lot of air, you also get good old air in your tummy, and that can result in burps or farts.

Exact quantum would depend on the size of the body. Imagine that a skinny 90pounder would store less gas than a 250pound person.

Fart is methan inside your intestines released due to either bowel movement, increased pressure (i.e. more wastes entering intestine), or the pulling of the finger. If gas is confined only to your digestive track, they are mainly released in the form of burps, or lower down, farts. However, too much gas inside the actual body can lead to death.

I would say that the answer is very flexible, not only can the human body strech, and so people have more capibltiy than others... also if given enough time and pressure (no pun intended) we could evolve as beings to store even more gas than how we do now... its limitless! (just look at URANIS!)
