it all depends on how we have been brought up in our eary childhood, basically upto the age of six years. the personality frame is skeched out, and can not change much. faulty parental attitudes are often a major cause of individuals who lack confidence, and on the other hand, correct handling and proper treatment by parents brings out the potentials in a child to the fullest.forcing career choices, over-protection or neglect, unduly strict and overt displinarian behaviour, lack of expressing love, rebuke on mistakes and scolastic failures, unhealthy comparisons, all these and more, result in damaging the child's healthy growth as a normal individual, developing inferiority complexes, and a severe lack of confidence, inspite of having the talents. in the later years, that individual needs constant moral support for achievements. with a strong will-power and affectionate and understaning spouses and friends, we can do it. always think about the plus points, that would help to rise above, as you wish.

Quite often it's because someone has younger siblings.
How many children at home has a lot to do with it.
Also, being supported at home by your parents. I've always felt their was nothing worse than parents constantly applauding their child/children when they don't deserve it. Then the child/children grow up believing they are that good.
It's not rising above yourself. It's giving yourself credit for your abilities and accomplishments. Just because other people might not give you due credit or respect has nothing to do with you.
It has gone on since who knows when.

it's actually something that comes from home. I mean your parents are the ones building that confidence skill that you'll have in your life. For example compare parents that are protective and let their kid not to learn by himself versus parents that let the kid learn somethings by himself and therefore build a confident skill, just by letting the kid learn from his mistakes

People change, and develop.
You can be confident if you believe you are.
Belief is the true key, and being comfortable in your own skin.

I am a very confident adult, was a painfully shy child.

Just takes practice, being happy with who you are helps too.
