How can you tell what causes a rash?

my wife has a rash on her legs around the knees and we don't know what caused it...

Is it on the back of her knee? Might be due to the heat and persperation.

Most rashes are cause by contact dermatitis. That is were you are allergic to something and when you come into contact with it it breaks out into a rash. Such as Poison Ivy or poison Sumac.

Although some rashes can be caused by a virus such as Fifth disease. This virus causes a person to break out in a lacy looking rash beneath or on top of the skin. But usually viruses come with other symptoms such as a fever and/or vomiting, etc.

Also, a bacteria such as Ring Worm can break you out in a signature raised and rounded rash that usually looks like a donut, and it itches.

As for you wife's condition it may be Psoriasis or something else. She would benefit greatly I presume , if she went and saw a Doctor.

Process of elimination....Have you changed laundry soaps or bathing soaps lately? Could it be the lotion she uses? Could it be razor burn or reaction to the shaving gel? Or reaction to the strip on the razor? See a doctor to help relieve the itchiness and then see an allergist to find out exactly?

are they raised like little pimples ? If they are then the rash is caused from heat.
