How much depends entirely on where you want to stay. Vancouver has some pretty posh hotels in the $400 per night range, and some $50 per night bed and breakfast sites.
If you're looking at hostels, you've got a great site there. The Jericho Youth Hostel is probably one of the prettiest anywhere. It's set near Jericho Beach, with easy access (a one block walk) to Vancouver's wonderful beaches that run from Spanish Banks through Jericho to Kisilano. There are also busses almost to the door that will take you to downtown Vancouver, Granville Island, or anywhere in the Lower Mainland.

Best time to come to Canada for a visit is between the months of October and March. Reason for the is because hotels are cheaper and this is the down time in the tourist industry.

i think it doesnt matter where u stay if you are going to travel but if not i think u should find a homestay!!
