technically it is. You are using a service that you did not pay for which could be considered stealing. It's amazing how many people don't put an encryption system and firewall on their network which makes it so easy to tap into. As long as you don't do anything seriously illegal such as going through their computers/network and hacking into another company/goverment office you should be ok. However- know that you will be seen on the network if anyone decides to check to see who is connected. At this point getting internet services are so cheap that it's pointless not to get your own. Especially since you will be getting more bandwith being the only one on your own network.

I dont think it is illeagle. However, if you do not get caught then i guess they wont know. I am in the Information Technology field, and I recently caught two people accessing the wireless signal that I have, but that was because I overlooked a security feature. I checked and made sure that no data was compromised. As far as I am concerned it isnt against the law, but its not necessarily the ethical thing to do. But Hell I do it from time to time. Really its up to you.

No, I don't think it's illegal. If the person doesn't want anyone to use their wireless connection, then they should secure it.

it is immoral, certainly. can i go into my neighbor's house and take a shower because he leaves the door open? your use of the wireless signal diminishes the quality for the people that are paying for it.

did you ever consider the possibility that you could get /permission/ to use the signal if you alerted your neighbor to the problem and offered to help them secure it?

Go for it!

You are simply reading the wireless broadcast that they so rudely have travelling thru your head. and house. if they didnt want you to use it they could sheild their house from the signal escaping.

satellite signals too. why should you have to pay for a signal that they are sending through your roof? some nerve.

Not illegal, but probably not nice...

I would seek out my own because the bandwidth is shared. And by the way, they can encrypt it or password protect it... if they haven't then perhaps they dont care!!

i don't think its illegal. maybe unless you look at their shared files or something or crack into their computers. I used to do that before. They probably wont have a clue you're doing it.
