I believe that this site from what I can see is to be able to ask and answer questions for and from other people spredding our wealth of information and helping each other. I wonder why so many people don't even acknowledge other peoples help. How come people can't just pick the answers that helped them the most.

yup, love it...
i only answer intelligent questions..knowing yahoo will delete the unanswered ones.....
so i ignore the trash.....because at least i can control my own actions...
and if you read, answers before you answer,...there is a lot of wisdom/knowledge to be gained...
i also check id's....see if they are asking good questions throughout...
you can be choosy...what you answer, who you answer, and how you answer...

always remember this forum is like everything else....

you WILL see that which you seek!!

I think that this is just a big conversation, sometimes an interesting answer or a funny one can be more useful than a hum-drum one, and sometimes the question should make you really think. I don't believe mean answers are needed, but sometimes thoughts that are outside the box are the best ones.
Lets face it, if you really want just an answer you could search for it yourself by typing in a couple words in "search". If you want something more human and personal, and are willing to take the risk to ask from humanity, this is the platform. If it were not interesting no one would be here.

good question... i think along the same lines you do.. this is suppose to be asking questions where i think they really may need help with and then try and help them if you can.. some of the questions and answers on here are so ridiculous and i just think it is really abusing the whole purpose of this.. but there is always jokers and all kinds out there today.. i like to joke but not when someone is asking a serious question...though some peoples serious question does not seem all that serious to others either...so there you go...if you are not in the situation or never been there you have no idea what you might do in the same circumstance....i hope i explained the way i mean correctly.......and i wish they would use the spell checker to see if they are making sense in their questions too.. i have made mistakes too but some of these questions i have no clue as to what they mean......

I think a lot of people are using this site the way it is supposed to be used. There are always going to be people who abuse the system and that is just something we have to accept.

As for the choices that people pick for their best answer, I think people are picking the answers that helped them the most. Some of the questions I've seen are just inquiries of opinons, but there's nothing wrong with that either - and it would be difficult to choose a best answer for those.

I think plenty of people are trying to be helpful too and when in doubt - I answer in all seriousness.

The person who asked, picks the best answer for them, as I understand it. So the rest of us are just lucky to 'listen in'. Is your question because you haven't been chosen as the 'best answer' yet? So is your reason to 'spread your knowledge' to help others or just get recognition for yourself? I know a part of me that agrees with you as when face to face people tell you their problems but never tell you later the problem has been solved, so you're still wasting time 'worrying' about them. Otherwise this site seems to be working well especially for a 'new' site. Maybe you need to make a specific suggestion to solve your concern or maybe a second 'rating' system for answers might help?

It is their choice.

Further, it seems from your statement "How come people can't just pick the answers that helped them the most." that you are more interested in ranking the anwers rather than "spredding (y)our wealth of information and helping each other. " Why is that?

May be it is kept open for all to join and decide how it should function. Otherwise if any regimental discipline is introduced for a body to decide which question to allow etc, other than those which breach the code of conduct, then it may lose the fun aspect.
I am glad that you seem to go thro all the answers and enjoy it and appreciate it. Thats enough. THUMBS UP is always there !!!

Maybe some people don't take it very seriously. It's a great opportunity for those who do. Some of the questions sure look like people are hungry for attention rather than answers. I guess everyone comes here for their own reasons, not just for answers.

Because of ingratitude... the advice is not so valued since it is free and nothing is required to be done to receive it. There is also not enough ability to "Enforce" the rules, so there are many people trying to find someone to "Chat", or other things that are not related to the purpose, also. Putting up with these things is part of the cost of freedom of information.

I always try my best to answer the questions to which I respond. I believe some people really have problems and are searching for the right answer. To the questions that I respond to, I hope that my answers will help. Thank you.

Besides generalizing, you have understood very little about this forum.

People ask what they are curious about, not what you are curious about.

And they do it the way they feel they should, not the way you think they should.

Finally, the answers people pich are indeed the ones that have answered their question, not the ones that have answered it your way.

Just take it easy, and perhaps make some questions about the word plurality.
