I need it as a proof-of-purchase for a rebate. I know its a stretch and I'm probably going to get no for an answer, but for $170, its worth asking.

that's the whole point of the barcode/label to prove that you bought it. They aren't going to give you another one. I worked retail for 8 years, mostly in electronics. there's no telling how many angry customers I had to deal with on this. It's hard to tell them it's their fault for losing their proof of purchase. Sorry. Seems you will lose your rebate.

Unfortunately it is not all as easy as it seems. You may think that getting an attorney and threatening legal action will "scare them into a rebate" It just doesn't happen that way.

The rebate center has a million and one ways of backing themselves up against fraud claims. There is no place on a rebate that says that it is guaranteed that you will get your money. You have to follow the rules and follow them exactly as they state them or you are out of luck. The rebate center is also not responsible for Postal Error. This can and does happen all the time. Some companies that offer rebates bank on many people not following the rules and sending in the wrong information. It isn’t ethical but totally legal.

The best thing to do is take the proof of fax and contact a manager... usually they will just pass your call onto an escalations team that is trained to deal with situations like this. Tell them the issue and tell them you have proof that they have received this information. If they need you to fax it in again... do it but then contact them again to make sure they got it. Some times these things take days even the fax stuff. Imagine how many thousands of people they are dealing with.

The rebates usually take 6-8 weeks so most of the companies won’t even bother with you until after those weeks have passed.

The rebate center I worked in took 3-4 weeks to get your information in the system after receiving it and that is because they have literally millions of pieces of mail in the center being processed daily. The data entry gets backed up by weeks all the time. Patience is needed when dealing with rebates.

Of course not! The whole idea is that you must supply the ORIGINAL to get the rebate. Without the ORIGINAL, you're out of luck.

For this reason, you can't return an item for a refund or credit if the label has been removed from the package.
