I've seen tons of stupid laws but never heard of them actually getting enforced. I think that legislators get bored and don't want to look lazy so they think of stupid laws. Why else would there be a law against eating ice cream with a fork in some city in Washington State?

I read that is is illegal in Youngstown, Ohio.

I could think of a few reasons.

1. Reduces the road hazards
2. Panhandlers can't use it as a story to collect money.
3. Secures people and cars from theft.
4. Reduces costs taken on by jurisdictions that tow cars away.
5. May allow for the car to be searched, as it can be argued, that if it ran out of gas, a crime has already been committed.

I'm not sure but I would guess it could cause an accident if you ran out around a curve or something and the inconviences it would cause law enforcement ect. Just like you pay a hefty fine for going over the Niagra Falls-it costs the stae a lot of money if they have to resue you or find you and clean up the remnants.

I live in Ohio and I have run out of gas before because my gas injection pump was broke on my truck. I didn't get arrested or get a ticket. I know a lot of cops that would stop and help someone out if they had run out of gas.
