Yep, exactly, and it gets worse if you are third party and/or otherwise don't fit in on one of the "teams." Geez, it is worse than a damn football game that way (NFL *or* World Cup footy, take your pick). That really gets on my last nerve...that people get so hostile and want to dictate to you how you should vote and *think*. How dare they?
And yes, it is the Mass Media's fault, as well as it is the fault of the CEOs supporting the whole mess....it's all a game of divide and conquer, if they can get the bottom 80% of society at each other's throats, that non-filthy-rich, largely non-corrupt four out of five people won't be bothered to notice the mugging going on, how the top 20 percent, and especially the top *One* percent, are doing all they can to exploit every last problem out there for every *last* red cent...
And for what? So they can take their money and run when Peak Oil hits? So they can buy their own country? So they can claim ownership of the planet and set up their own dictatorship, their Planet Plantation?
Please pardon the comic book quote, (from DC's "Superman/Batman: Public Enemies", the tail end of it) but I think it does apply here:
Superman, to Luthor, middle of a fight: "So what's the big plan, Luthor? Just let the asteroid destroy Earth while you *Boom Tube* out?"
Really....so what *is* the deal with your CEO Class and the Media manipulating folks and bleeding the nation dry of all its money? What's the big plan, let Peak Oil and Religious Fanaticism destroy Western Civilization while you bail out and Run?
Really folks. No economy can stand when it dies in a nation of Have Alls and Have Nones, and that is where we have been headed for the past 26 some odd years now, courtesy of the CEOs and the Media and the Politicians They Own (tm).
So...What's the big plan...?

You're right. Polarized thinking is dangerous for us. It sells ads on TV and in the papers; short sound bytes where people speak for 5 seconds and get interrupted, short snippets in magazines that offer conjecture without objective details, and so on. The fight keeps people interested and having people interested is all the media is concerned with, because that's how they butter their bread. I recommend watching the DVD "the Manufacturing of Consent". It's Noam Chomsky. It opened my eyes, as have his books. It can open many peoples' eyes, if they wish to think about such things in depth.

Any time wasted here would not be spent solving anything major for the world. If anything, arguing here helps by causing some of us to form opinions that may later effect our actions.

Why is it that when people have opposing views, it's arguing? This is the most ridiculous damn question I've ever seen.
I'm just kidding. :) The only places that I've really seen people going at it is in the Religion section. The reason for that is as old as time.

Possibly...but there will always be differences of opinion and that is what keeps "Big Brother" from enslaving us. Remember- where everyone thinks alike, noone is thinking very much....
