I am in the same position right now as you. I have been a stay at home mom for 7 years now and have put my education on the back burner. Now that 2 of my children are going to be in school full time it's time to go back and further my education. I don't want to spend a lot of time going back to school, so instead of going to a regular college I am going to go to a trade school where I will just be learning the Trade and by pass all of the other stuff. There are a lot of options for getting a degree in less than two years. Medical assisting, dental assisting, massage therapy, billing insurance and coding, pharmacy technician, x-ray technician, paralegal, court reporting, legal assistant etc. I hope everything works out for you. It's tough when your out of school for so long and then go back. You'd be surprised at how much of the basics you forget and have to learn all over again. It's worth it though to better yourself. Best of luck!

There are many wonderful careers where you do not need a four year degree. The issue is to find your passion and make it work for you. I could easily say become a cosmetologist, which actually pays very well but if you are not good at doing hair, then this is not the profession for you. Maybe you should see a career counselor. They are available at most colleges. They can take an inventory of your skills and desires and give you suggestions as to what careers best suits your skills.

I've been in a similar position to you, and decided that my children were older enough for me to re-enter the work force and I thought I would up-date my education and skills. Two years later I am still a full time student, which I love (be niced to be paid for it though). I am however employed casually at the learning institue where I am a student. I have re-thought my goals and have decided to further my education more and hope to teach the same course which I am now completing in the future. So finally my answer to your question is - "If you love your job you will never have to work a day in your life". Good luck

Start off as an entry level position and at night, go to school to get that 4 year degree. Learn while you earn. You will not get far, even how hard you work, you will 'always' be passed over for the job promotion. "Working hard don't get you nowhere, it gets you more work."
It's like: "I know I can do it, I know I can do it better then you; I just need to prove it." How? by getting that degree. A degree don't really mean anything unless you can perform, but they will not let you perform unless you have that degree. Sucks Huh?

electrician makes really good money if ur physically fit, realtor makes really good money if u know ur city well and don't mind working off-hours sometimes, i've also heard that court reporting and medical office techs make some good dough. good luck finding something worth your while, i'm proud of you for being brave and getting back in it from being a S.A.H.M.

Look into the healthcare field. However, remember the working hours for these people are all over the 24 hour period... sometimes all in one week!
