Everyone is technically correct: a monologue is a long speech by one actor, uninterrupted by others. Usually several paragraphs.
Monologues are used by actors to audition. Some auditions will have you do a cold reading from the script, but many ask for a prepared monologue. Beyond just reciting the lines, a monologue is where you show you can act and emote. The most popular are from dramas for that reason, but there are comedic monologues and Shakespeare monologues as well.
Your local library should have a selection of monologues available.

If you want to be an actor, you should go to the library and look for monologues. Most auditions consist of performing a 3-minute MEMORIZED monologue.
Go to the library and ask the librarian and ask her to show you where the monologues are located.
Photocopy them so you can study the pages this summer. That's your summer assignment!

A monolugue is a script from a play or a movie that you learn. You act it out and play the part. You perfect this for auditions. You perform this for a person or group that are doing auditions for parts in plays or movies or whatever.
