I've used acupuncture to cure migraines successfully and I've used self hypnosis to assist in weight loss with limited success.

It was when my doctor told me that I had type 2 diabetes and that if I didn't manage it, I'd die 20 years sooner than expected, that I finally did what was necessary.

What's necessary is to stop eating crap and to exercise. At first, I went hardcore with a high protein and almost zero carb diet. I quit driving to work and began riding my bike instead. I started jogging.

My doctor told me to lose fifty pounds so I did. I'd like to be around a little longer I think...

The trick is to not kick your own butt for every little indiscretion. Want a cookie? Have a cookie, just not the whole box. Do you want a soda instead of drinking gallons and gallons of water? Find a diet soda that tastes best to you. For me, it's diet Dr. Pepper.

When you start seeing results, you'll find a level of motivation that you never knew existed.

Remember that food is fuel for the body and nothing more. Drill that into your brain. Food shouldn't be an anchor for our other problems.

Sometimes keeping a food diary can help. Sometimes we don't remember how much we have snacked on during the day. The food diary can help you see if you are snacking excessively or help you see a bad habit.

If snacking is your problem you can look into a couple of options. You can cut down on your snacking or plan for healthier snacks. Don't drastically change your diet unless you know that you can stick with it. Otherwise you just gain all of the weight back because you go back to old habits. Just change a little at a time. Try having two "healthy meals" a week. Something as simple as having grilled food, instead of something fried.

Also, to lose weight you really need to do some type of exercise. Find something that you enjoy doing. You will be more likely to stick with it. Maybe walking, swimming, yoga, dance, aerobics. Just whatever you find interesting. If you bore easily you may want to try doing more than one thing. For instance, walking with friends on Monday and Wednesday, yoga on Tuesday and Thursday. The next week try dance on Mon. and wed. and aerobics or Tues. and Thurs.. You just have to find what works for you. The most important thing is to keep it fun and interesting. Take time and try some new things!

I hope these suggestions were helpful. Good luck and just keep the faith in yourself. You can do it. You just have to decide that you are ready to.

The diet is too much to handle becaue you're making yourself uncomfortable. If you make yourself uncomfortable with dramatic lifestyle changes, you wont stick with it. I think what will work best for you is one or two small changes at a time. That is how a lot of people do it. My mom used to be big as the side of the house and she started with small changes. First she gave up candy bars and after a week or so she gave up cheese burgers then after another week or so she started walking a little bit.... and just gradually keep adding those small changes. Shes fit now.

I think you could benefit a lot with some nutrition or fitness coaching. Most people need that because they want to change and have all the drive to do it and stick with it, but just don't know what to do or how to start.

Small changes make all the difference. I don't know what you do all day but one small change could be to just start taking stairs instead of an elevator... or if you have whole milk with your cearal, switch to skim or 2% just things like that. Or, if you eat breakfast as school, instead of having the biscuits and gravy, have fruit and oatmeal or whatever else is available that's a better choice. Or stop having ketchup with your French fries (its all sugar). It really does work.

I've spent lots of money on diet clinics and stuff that use drugs or put you on a really strict diet and the results never lasted because it was just too dramatic and I went back to the same bad habits. The only things that ever let to lasting resuts was the small changes that I stuck with... like parking far away from buildings and walking through the parking lot rather than parking as close to the door as I could... I've even joined extreme fitness classes like crossifr and never stayed with them because it was just too much all at once.

One thing you can do that you wont really notice is don't eat everything on your plate... leave like 20% of it. At the end of the month, all that food really adds up.

Don't bring "bad" foods into the house. I know if it's in the house, I'll eat until it's all gone. Start eating more raw fruits and vegetables. They don't have many calories compared to their bulk. Plus, they'll help fill you up so you don't overeat all the other stuff. Also, if you can, take long walks or find other reasons to get out of the house away from the food. Finally, if you check out www.fitday.com you can enter in your daily meals and it will calculate the calories for you. Just seeing the foods add up as you enter them during the day into the computer will help curb your appetite. I've lost 8 pounds in 2 months without trying by just entering the food onto that website as I eat it. BTW, fitday.com isn't my website. I have no financial incentive for mentioning. It's just that I've been trying to lose 20 pounds for the last 3 years and instead of losing 20, I gained 10 more. So, when I stumbled across fitday and started using it 2 months ago, I found it worked for me.

There are three main ways to lose weight quickly.

1) Use only water as liquid and eliminate all other liquid drinks from your diet. You must drink as much water as possible every day. You must drink about half of your weight. If you have weight of 200 pounds then you must drink about 100 oz of water.

2) The interval between the eating is very important. If you eat once, then you must eat next after 4 hours. You must take breakfast regularly. In the night eat your food three hours before going to bed.

3) Walking is very good. You must walk as much as you can. Walk everywhere you can. Use of elevators and escalators must be reduced and instead of these you must climb stairs more often.

These are some of the fastest ways to lose weight. By just following the simple steps, you can lose your weight very quickly. You must consult your doctor if want to change your diet or exercise routine.

A calorie is a calorie is a calorie.
Burn off more calories than you take in, and you will lose weight. *

The secret to successful weight loss is so simple but complex:

Eat less and exercise more.

The real difficulty in losing weight is finding the motivation to burn off
more calories than you can put in your mouth. This is precisely why some
diets work for some, and not for others. If you want to lose weight, look
inside first. Decide, not how many pounds you want to lose, but decide
how to motivate yourself. Then go on any diet that fits the math or....

Try the Atkins' Diet: The low-carb diet is itself a clever hack, a sneaky algorithm for getting the body to do what you want it to do, a way of reprogramming yourself!
Premise: This diet makes physiological sense. The usual energy source for our body is sugar. Carbs are made of sugars, and when they run short, the body automatically shifts gears and taps our other backup energy source, fats. Now fats become the primary energy source. When fat and not sugar becomes the primary source of fuel, ketosis develops. Ketosis is a condition in which keytones are produced as a byproduct of fat burning. Ketosis is also found in abnormal metabolic states such as starvation and uncontrolled diabetes. In fact, keytones can kill but not in a healthy body where they are promptly eliminated through the kidneys and lungs. When you *control/limit* carbohydrate consumption with the Atkin's diet, your body will switch from burning glucose (derived primarily from carbohydrates), to primarily burning fat as the energy source!
You can easily and economically monitor this fat loss in your urine with keytone strips. Keytones are derived from Lipolysis or fat burning.

* You will lose pounds and inches when you learn, " how," to start burning your fat reserves by controlling what you put in your mouth.

* While it is true, that if you burn off more calories than you take in, you will lose weight, it is not true, that the only way to lose weight is to limit your intake of calories.

* You burn more calories when your body is operating on a fat metabolism.

* You don't have to be hungry on the Atkins' Diet! You count carbs but not calories!

* A successful Atkins' weight loss program does NOT mean never eating carbohydrates and bulking up on high fat foods.

* This diet is common sense and backed by evolving science, and in my opinion, can and should be practiced for a lifetime.

* Cholesterol and bad triglycerides go down not up. Remember, you are burning fats. If you don't believe it, have your levels checked before and after a month and then regularly.
