Iron Butterfly's, "In-A-Godda-Da-Vida"
Misheard Lyrics:
In the garden of eden
Original Lyrics:
In a godda da vida
According to the articles I've seen on this song, "In The Garden Of Eden" was the original title of the song, but the singer was too drunk/high/whatever to sing it properly, so it came out "In-a-Godda-Da-Vida." It might also explain why the song is like 15 minutes long.
VH-1's Pop Up Videos features Doug Ingle stating that he couldn't sing the song, but it wasn't influenced by drugs or anything else and that the title is Latin for Garden of Eden. I have a hard time believing that though because in latin Garden is "hortus" and Eden is "paradisus".

Yeah, it was supposed to be "In The Garden Of Eden", but it's never been clear why he sang it like that. That song was a monster FM hit in the late 1960's, not because it was a great tune, but because it gave the DJ's 17 minutes to do whatever they wanted. They usually smoked some dope, had a quickie with someone, or had to use the bathroom.

That's right - "in the Garden of Eden". I saw them perform it live in 1968, when they opened for Jefferson Airplane. Very loud - and they had a fire onstage as part of the act.

the song was suppose to be IN A GARDEN OF EDEN but according to one of the guys in the band that i saw on TV the other day said the one who wrote it was drunk and probably on drugs when they sung it the words came out that way,so they kept it that way.

It's supposed to be "In the Garden of Eden" - he just slurs it because they thought it sounded cool
