I had mild lower pelvic and back pain and a spreading sensation. With my third baby I did not have contractions, only the spreading sensation and by the time I got it through the nurses head that I was in labor, I was already to 7. Don't be afraid, it's not terrible and if you have a difficult time they can give you things to help you through it. It's all worth it in the end when you hold your beautiful baby in your arms! Good luck to you!

Depends upon whether you give birth easy or not. Me, I wouldn't be trying for another child right now if I had to go through labor again. I get to have a C-section cuz I ended up with an emergency C-section after my first one. Labor was HORRIBLE. She was stuck in the left side of my pelvic bone. Seemed like eveything that could go wrong, did go wrong. But I have a BEAUTIFUL litttle girl & she was worth every second of it. I am grateful though that I don't have to do that again. I would rather recover from surgery than deal with all that.
My co-worker on the other hand, was in labor for only 2 hrs, had about 5 minutes of hard pushing & barely made it to the hospital. She loved giving birth.
Basically, it just depends upon the woman. Don't have ANY expectations when you go in the delivery room. The situation can change in a heartbeat, and just remember to breathe.

The dialation is just part of the labor.... I think for each mom it's different. For me, I delivered all 4 of my children without an epidural - with my last child, I had 1/2 a dose of newbane. If you are progressing slowly and in tremendous pain - I say don't hesitate to get an epidural.
The actual labor pains are different w/ each pregnancy. In the beginning, there's a slight discomfort - as you dialate and your cervix thins, your contractions will get harder, stronger and closer together - and at times seem unbearable.
For me, I had very mild labors -- although, I had intense labors, the were fairly short lived.
Hang in there - you honestly do forget the pain as soon as you see that beautiful baby.

Labour feels like some one is taking blades and scraping out your insides, you get crotch pains that hurt like hell and back pains. The best thing you could do while you are in labour is to get down on all fours and just stay there, believe me, it helps a lot! Actually pushing the baby out burns A LOT and drains all your energy. I chipped a tooth when I was having my second one because I was pushing so hard! You poop because you have to push like you are pooping, not like you are pushing something out of your yoohoo, which I always found wierd, but I guess that's the way to do it. It hurts more than anything you could imagine, but just think, it only lasts hours, and then you have the baby and it is all over and you have this beautiful little miracle in your arms and you forget about all the pain you just went through! If you are the one who is going through it, congratulations!!!! It is so worth it!! You will never feel as happy as you feel when you hold your baby for the first time!

it is really painful but u can through it without an epidural we females are stronger than we think. think about it like this all that pain is for a reason and ant the end you get the most beautiful humanbeing u ever laied ur eyes on. it helps alot if u move around in diferent positions during ur labour the bath or even the shower with the water sraying on ur belly gives alot of releif also.at least u no that if u cant handel the pain any longer u have the epidural option. but see how long u can last without it. good luck.

you don't really feel a difference of when you're dialating or not. The contractions are the worst part. They feel like a really bad stomach ache and your whole belly gets really hard during one. It will continue to contract until it pushes the baby down to the position to come out. Then it's time to push. If you can get through the contractions then you'll make it through just fine. And when pushing try to use your stomach muscles not the muscles in your neck, as weird as that sounds. Also try and stay active so those muscles in your abdomen don't turn to mush. It will really help you have a much easier delivery with much less pushing. try to walk as much as possible.

I felt like I had to pee all of the time. It wasn't painful at first, but I just felt uncomfortable, no matter what I did. Eventually it felt like I was having really bad menstrual cramps. When they got more frequent and more painful I decided to go to the hospital. Good thing too, I had my daughter less than an hour after we arrived. Didn't even have enough time to get any pain relief, but I think that was better anyway because I felt great about an hour later, like I could go back to work the next day. With my first daughter I had stadol, and I was miserable and painful for two weeks after I had her.

First your back will hurt then the pain gets worse. Pain will be in lower back then work into hips. Then you will feel pressure and have the urge to push as though your having B/M. I believe it's only natural for a mother to know when the baby is on it's way out. You will know when it's time. When your pains are 15 minutes apart head for the hospital if this is your first child. Check out the website, it goes more into details about childbirth.

when you first go into labor it feels like your stomach gets tight... like someone is stretching your belly button back towards your sides... OR, it can be an incredible backache that doesn't seem to go away... i've had both kinds. as the contractions get closer it feels like ALL of your stomach is being stretched and i remember how painful it seemed to my belly button (which is sensitive any way). there is a lot of vaginal pressure... but i didn't seem to have a great deal of that until it was about time to push... so when the baby was at a 9-10 position (that means READY to be born, crowning). and it DOES feel like you are going to poop on the table in front of everyone... or have gas... i remember always being so relieved that i didn't do either! i was SO worried about how embarrassing that would be...

it hurts like hell, if u don't get the epidural. at first, my contractions weren't too bad. if i was standing up, they didn't hurt nearly as bad; i don't know why. i was trying not to get an epidural. i did have some other type of pain med, but it only took some of the edge off. once u start pushing, the contractions aren't as bad because pushing makes the pain go away. they come in waves and u can feel them when they're about to come on. that's when u push. if i "missed the wave" the pain would wash over me so badly that i honestly wanted to die. good luck
