Because they are all wrong and they all think they are right.
Most religions preach about a single God ruling over us all. Every religion has their own interpretation of biblical writings.
There becomes a powerplay between religions. People will believe what they believe, whether true or not. Nobody can change their beliefs. Most people become defensive and even violent if their beliefs are questioned.
I think people worry about other people's beliefs because our society is so trained to label each other, separate each other based on so many different factors, such as ethnic background, color, sexual preferences, physical appearances, and even the way we talk. Religious beliefs are also included in the list.
You might wonder where religious beliefs originiate. Who knows. Think about this, though: Who wrote the Bible? If you consider the time period and the people and intelligence levels at that time, you might wonder if it was just fiction. It could be...
Consider that those people drank, did drugs, engaged in homosexual acts, rarely bathed, and many complete morons, how could you believe anything they say in the first place?
Then there is science. Scientifically we cannot prove or disprove the existence of a God described in the Bible. Science has come a long way in showing how our universe has developed, but the science does not help prove biblical writings, other than a few known recorded events.
Belief is the driving force behind religion. Some religions are a complete joke, while others actually make sense. I think a lot of the worry is about one religion disproving another religion's beliefs.
You also have to consider that humans are fear driven. Think about that for a bit. Why do you brush your teeth? (Fear of cavities and pain). Why do you eat? (Fear of starvation and death). Why do you shower or bath? (Fear of being ridiculed by peers). Why do you go to your worthless job everyday? (Fear of being homeless, starving, etc.).
Religion has instilled fear in most believers. Many people are afraid not to believe, due to many different reasons, especially social status. People go to church every week and pray and donate money in fear of being cast into hell if they don't.
One thing that I find almost hilarious is the commandment "remember the sabbath and to keep it holy". Ok, when is it? At the time the Bible was written they didn't even measure time in days and months and years. And if God was going to have such a commandment wouldn't he have the common sense to tell us when it is? The Bible says work 6 days and rest on the 7th. Ok, when do we start counting? When we pop out of our mother's womb? When we first get a job? The fact is, the Bible does not say when. So how can God expect us to obey?
Different religions believe the sabbath is on a different day. So who is right? None of them are, because none of them could possibly know when it really is. And does God count days as years like in many sections of the biblical writings? He didn't specify, or at least it wasn't written down.
So, basically each religion is just a different interpretation of biblical writings. The one you believe is the religion you belong in.
Religion promotes the law of God, which many of our nation's laws were originally based on. If you consider the commandment "thou shalt not kill", I think you'll agree that nobody on earth follows it. If a mosquito bites you, you kill it right? If an ant walks under your foot you kill it, perhaps without even knowing it.
This law is interpreted differently by religions. Look at the people overseas killing thousands in the name of God, in their so called 'holy' wars. How could their be a holy war?
But there again, if God is real, and is like the description in the Bible, he would have no concept of life and death, love or hate, or pain, because he is described as a spirit that has always been and will always be. (The alpha and omega). Someone that cannot be born or die has no concept of life or death. So his commandment itself could not have any meaning to himself.
A friend asked me once if I believed in God. My response was and still is: "the question is the answer". If we have to ask ourselves if we believe in God, then obviously we can't. If we believed in God, we would never ask the question in the first place.
If you ask someone else if they believe in God, are you not judging them, or separating them from your social group, against biblical writings?
I could write volumes on the subject..will cut off...

Religional is not a word...the word is religious
And the answer to your question is: Because some people need to put their nose in other people's business. Hence, Yahoo! Answers. It is the same motivation that sends the damned Mormons and Jehovah's Witnesses to my door on an early morning when I am trying to work and makes them unable to take a polite "No thank you" for an answer. They NEED you to slam the door in their face so they can pray for your immortal soul. It would be much simpler if they would realize that not everyone prays to the same deity, or at all, and accept it, and spend more of their valuable time praying for their OWN salvation, which is what non subscribers would prefer. Much more effective.

Probably because pretty much every religion touts that THEY are the one true religion and all others are not. Also a great many of them are fairly intolerant of those other religions. They may merely look down on the others or some will go as far as trying to kill those nasty non-believers.....
Jesus, Jehovah, Allah, Buddha,Krishna, Vishnu, RA, Satan or whatever. Take your pick.
In human history more people have died in the name of religion than for any other reason.....
Just my .02 cents.

Hello Lover, your inquiry peeked my imagination,so here goes: Religion is the "Operating System" that the seeming Godliness of existance has provided...each superior intellectual enclave, of thousands of years ago, was motivated by their leadership to form up into a politically effective entity...which worked well for some period of time, but as populations expanded, each similar but diverse in their tradition, mythos,& superstitions, about who, what ,why, how... they and everything else came into existance, & most especially why ???...so I would suggest that, instead of inquiring of these functional psycopaths, that you seek your answers through higher education...as I most definately won,t be here to lift your spirit up to the most high wholeness of the human comprehension of serendipity, forever...Peace,Love,& +Comprehension...MeSighAh...CanU...

The key to the confrontation is to accept another's belief, contrary to your own, would bring into question the validity or legitimacy of your own beliefs. This implies an inbedded sense of failability in your own belief structure which brings into question your own sense of faith...
...if your belief structure was strong, who cares what others believe?

Renay, are you really George W. Bush?? What the hell is "religional"?! It's RELIGIOUS! People just LOVE to be "holier than thou", so they shove their religious beliefs down everyone's throats! It's as old as man himself--as George Carlin says, "My God has a bigger d*ck than yours"!!
