There are a lot of motivated people stuck in dead end jobs.

It could also be geographic location. If you live in a place with very few good paying jobs, then you pretty much have to take what you can get, unless you start your own business.

I doubt there are any PhD's busing tables. But yeah, there are people with two or three degrees that can't find work. Sometimes you have to make your own way, create your own job, to make due.

This issue you brought up might occur because people actually get "overqualified" for a position, and an employer couldn't afford to hire them. In this case, having extra schooling can hurt, but still a PhD shouldn't be wiping tables!!

If you have a doctorate and can't get a decent job, then you are obviously suffering from what I like to call "apathy & lethargy". Plus, you're probably not motivated to do anything and when it comes to getting ahead in life and putting yourself out there, you'd rather stay on the sidelines. You'll never help yourself if you don't network and push to get in to what you want to do! Get some motivation damnit and get that million-dollar career!

well i can speak for my husband who has a bachelor's degree in environmental science, he couldn't find a job in our area, so he went back to school, and now is a paramedic....
believe it or not because he had a BS degree, it didn't matter what in he is one of the highest paid paramedics where he works...
its not a burger flipping job, however i do know that he could make a lot more money doing a lot less work... he is happy in his job, it is actually rewarding... i also work in the health care Field... and feel the same

too few good jobs and too many ppl getting the wrong degrees. I have yet to see an M.D. or a J.D. wiping tables.
