You can get a way better bike for a grand than you can a car. A thousand dollar car will be either used up or a gas hog. There's a buttload of good bikes out there for a thousand bucks. You can get a decent Honda Rebel for a grand or so. Try the Recycler, Auto Trader, Cycle Trader, etc.

craigs list in your area or THE OBITUARIES in your local paper-it sounds harsh but old people sell cars cheap-be Eddie Haskel incarnate-no piercings or tats-you want to be a clean cut young person who will give this car a good home ,make no mistake this will seem more like an interview than a sales meeting ,remember they DON'T HAVE to sell it and it will be something that reminds them of the dead loved one,you need to hint at how helping a young person is what will help keep the spirit alive-good luck

you can try autotrader.com or cars.com. You can also modify your search "advanced search" such that you only get results within your price range, and also within your distance range. play around with the sites, they are very helpful. My family recently purchased a car through autotrader.com. Try looking for cars for sale by "private" owners for they are cheaper!
