Actually, most police forces would rather you had a background in business.....anything you need to become a detective you will learn at the academy. Having something other than a law enforcement related course gives you an advantage over others. Business training will help with the mounds of paperwork police officers have to do on a daily basis.

Either or.
There are even a few schools out there who offer BS in forensic science. But as long as you major in a related field and you can demonstrate that you have gained the skills necessary to perform well, then your specific major choice will not make as big of a difference.
Even a degree in psychology or chemistry could do you well if you apply the knowledge learned appropraitely.
My advice would be to double major in a criminal justice related major (CJ or crimalogy or forensic science) and a behavior related major (psychology or sociology). I would also be sure to take several chemistry classes and maybe even an entry level physics class to help boost your knowledge and skills in applicable areas.

definite.... likely. a sturdy buddy of mine at present graduated with a criminal justice degree yet, like your self, became uncertain about starting to be a police officer. He took a pastime waiting tables contained in the cafeteria at our community justice and administration construction. a number of the police officials, judges and legal experts devour lunch there and the records are respectable.
