Recently heard of a study that concluded 90% of all males masturbate, no big surprise there but the 70% females was much higher than I would have guessed...wonder why that is?

Why wouldn't you think females masturbated? Monkeys masturbate. I am not equating female humans with chimps but masturbation is a function of higher ordered mammals. Of course they rub a few off. They just like to let you belive they only think about clothes, shoes, hair and makeup. It's not your fault tho man for a couple of reasons. Masturbation is almost always associated with guys and that's because the mags and stories you read are written by men who do not care to write about women getting themselves off, but would rather write about how the woman got off on a 3 hour anal/vaginal pounding by them. The other reason is that we are all raised to believe girls are "sugar and spice and everything nice"...they would NEVER think of doing something so naughty. That is why most women keep it a secret, they were also taught that and do not want you thinking otherwise.

You don't know girls very well, do you?
Did you know women used to go to the Dr to be masturbated??? It's why the vibrator was invented. A Dr invented it so that he could get off more patients per day and would save his own hands from manipulating his patients to orgasm. Its true...you can read all about the history of sex and sexuality...some of it is even on video and dvd!!
Personally, I think it had more to do with the fact that men didn't know how to get their partners off and moreover, didn't care how to because women's needs were not important. A woman didn't NEED to get off to get pregnant, which was really all she had to look forward to in life. Having a good lover was just a fringe benefit...PROVIDED you were lucky...or married to the Dr!!
Allot of men STILL do not have a clue how to make a woman orgasm, but at least it is becoming important. A female NEEDS to orgasm just as much as a man does. It helps her stay healthy and not want to rip heads off. Like her mate's.
I'm not assuming anything, but it might do you some wonders to get a few books from the library and read up on the female orgasm...you too, can make her *** the way she does!

Could it possibly be true that it's none of your business and that maybe you stenotype women and believe all to be only certain ways? Why do women have to be all generalized into all being the same and believed to be less then men in everything...? Is it that being male means you have to be more and it's cool for some reason?
If a study says 70%, I guarantee there are probability more that didn't admit to it. I think the admitting to it part is the only factor that has ever made it differ...

Let me first disagree with the comment that it doesn't say too much for the men in our lives . . because the 90% figure would mean what about men's women??
It's not surprising that women do masturbate, but I think for most it's a different kind of thing than it is with men. Maybe not always, but for the most part. Guys tend to be all over women and porn and that stuff, when I think women actually value a little more depth into it. Women don't make jokes about it like men do about "beating their meat" to their friends and stuff. I think that's the difference. . between the figures and between the views of how men and women are perceived (women more conservative and men more blatantly advancing).

I have to say that is probably an understatement, woman wont tell things like that to just anyone. If I asked 30 females in a friend setting, relaxed no pressure. 30 would say they masturbate. Especially the around the time of their cycle, your hormone level is so high and there is nothing you can do about it. If you have boundaries.

The percentage sounds a bit on the low side. I'd be willing to say a range of 85-90% is more accurite.

My question to you is why the surprise? If you have spent a decent amount of time with any sexually healthy woman you would know orgasm and masturbation are widely considered to be more than fairly important in a womans life.

It is equally common in males and females and is considered abnormal only if it interferes with sexual or occupational functioning.

It dosen't matter what part of the world your from if you discover that you are more likely to have an orgasm if you do it yourself then .....well....you know the rest! And as for women that don't masturbate that may be because they haven't tried it yet.

I think the figures are based on American women. It is higher than you expected, maybe, because females are becoming more educated, don't want unplanned pregnancy, divorce or STDs. ....... a new age of enlightenment ?
