actually, you are confusing football with soccer. football is a game where there is an offense and a defense and the offense is trying to get into the endzone to score 6 points while the defense tries to stop them, they must gain 10 yards for a 1st down and are only allowed 4 downs before a turnover. if they score a touchdown, they try to kick it through goalposts for an extra point. it is a game that goes on for 4 quarters 15 minutes each with a halftime in between the 2nd and 3rd quarters.
and by the way, yes soccer is just grown men kicking a ball around a field, stupid in my OPINION. and to the person below me, I am from America, soccer is stupid and football rocks.
GO RAIDERS!!!

what is the point of getting made-up before a night out? what is the point to make sure you are wearing the latest trend. Everything in our lives do not at all times have to make a point. There is no "point" to football other than an excuse for comraderie and 90 minutes in which to forget our worries (and quite often a display of physical prowess using nothing other than a smallish round ball). The World Cup is truly the only non-political world experience there is. It is really quite extraordinary.

It's not just about kicking the ball for the whole 90 minutes. Why are u asking this stupid question anyway? People who never understand football/soccer will never enjoy the game and they'll end up asking some pointless question.

there is more... football in the past decade has become more like a business, a very successful business. I'm sure you've might've heard rich men like Roman Abromavich who bought Chelsea Football Club 3years ago and he already owns an oil company in Russia. but since he's bought Chelsea they have improved ALOT more. And even Manchester United being bought by some American guy.
Football is almost like politics too its becoming a dirty game with competition from every team... so men dislike each each other they fight, they get sent off, you get fans causing riots too.

but for me... football is also about seeing some cute men on field play lol I'm so enjoying the world cup the moment
plus men in football earn BIG MONEY have you seen their cribs on MTV?!

If you were the coach of a soccer team and you tell them to kick a ball around a field and I was the coach of the opposite team, my team would win it for a large margin!
If American Football has a defensive and a offensive, soccer its much more complex and challenging:4 basic positions - goalkeeper, defense, midfield, attack.
And, only in America soccer its called this way, allover the world its called simply football.

In football, and sports in general, life is simplified for a short time, in which one's purpose is clearly defined. When a person's purpose is well defined, they are then capable of trying to achieve the highest level of success in that purpose, allowing them to clearly feel happy when they do good (score) or feel disappointed when they lose. Football is a very simple game, in terms of rules, but since the rules are simple (unlike life in general) this allows for people to invent the most complex ways of succeeding within the closed parameters of the game. The results are marvelous displays of skillful cooperation in accomplishing a common goal. Each well played game is a moving work of art, and very pleasing to the knowledgeable eye.

the point of football (and please stop calling it "soccer", its the most annoying form of americanisation of the English language after 'hot dog').... is it unites the whole human race together... no wonder '22 grown men chasing a leather object' with finesse and skill attracts more global audience than any other sporting event, even olympics... from brazil to japan and sweden to south africa...

yea, sure there are also other sports like athletics, cricket, rugby, basketball, ice-hockey etc which are reserved to a certain continent or geographical area... but 'the beautiful game' (football) is a global phenomenon, which shatters borders, boundaries, language and cultural differences... and harmonises the whole human race together!!!!!!!!!

Willkommen zum Fussball!
