Perfectly normal experience.

I read somewhere that a man averages 12 to 24 erections over the course of 8 hours of sleep.

The erection when you need to urinate, I was told, is from the backup of the urine into the urethra, I think...but I am not totally sure of that.

The morning wood will be with you your whole life. They are just harder when you are young. In order to understand you need to have a little information about how the hydraulic system of a man works. Your penis has arteries that bring blood into the penis and veins that carry blood away from the penis. The arteries are connected to spongy muscle tissue that expands when filled up with blood and the penis becomes erect and hard enough to insert into the vagina. Now during sexual arousal the arteries are opened wide so that more blood can go into the penis than can get out (thus the cavities fill up and behold an erection) When young this occurs without our wishing it and boys get erection all the time at night and during the day. Now another way to get erections. During the night while sleeping your bladder fills up with urine and since you don't get up to empty it the bladder gets really full. In this condition it presses against some of the veins that carry blood away from the penis. This constricts the veins and has the same effect as the arteries enlarging. More blood gets into the penis than can leave so the spongy tissue fills with blood and an erection occurs. Sometimes this is a major erection and is the hardest one you have had in a long time. What to do. If you can get the penis to point down to the john try peeing and that will relive the pressure. You can try for a quickie masturbation session and that will relive some of the pressure and your penis will be a little more flexible so you can aim it where you want it rather than having it point up to the sky. You can jump into a shower with cold or cool water, pee and not worry that it is shooting up and arcing over against the shower wall and after your bladder is empty your penis will become flaccid and you will be ready to go. Take time to enjoy your young body and don't let these little things become a problem. Life is wonderful.

It's not uncommon for men to have an number of erections during the night, while they're sleeping. It's perfectly normal.

As far as the morning wood goes, sit on the pot and relax. Soon you'll be going with the "flow".
