hi...

you are not alone... I also got an e-mail similar to that...

2 things that I can suggest to you...

1. You will NEVER win anything if you've never bought a ticket from any lottery or sweepstakes. Where will they get the prize money if they don't have the funds from ticket selling?
2. IF it is legitimate, they will not contact you via e-mail... E-mail is not a secure medium of communication because of hackers... They will call you or send you mail.

Please do not send any of your personal informations to prevent fraudulent activities being done by using those info of yours....

Good luck and I hope that you win (legitimately!) in any lottery that you join in the near future. =)

Don't ever believe a contest would rely on "email" communication to notify you of such a prize. That's ludicrous!

It would have to state your FULL name and mailing address to have any shot at legitamacy, but even then, it is likely fraudulent. The point of such emails is to see if your address is active in hopes you'll respond.

Any legitimate contest would contact you by phone and/or mail.

Do not reply to that email. Report that to Yahoo. In fact I think there is a Yahoo email address that you can forward that to.
These contest scams that you never entered, but were "selected" to be in, are all scams.

Why in the world did you open that? Did you know that when you open that, it sends a signal to the sender comp that this indeed is a valid email addy, SELLS your addy and then you get bombarded with spam emails......that can compromise your addy and send viruses to everyone on your list.

Yes, all lotteries operate randomly over the internet. NOT!

Just wait until they ask for your bank account "to deposit your winnings" or a "credit card verification" or your SSN.

Obviously phishing.

Two ways to tell if something is scam:
- You won even though you did not have to enter the contest.
- They do not mention your name anywhere in the e-mail; it could be sent to anybody.

I bet they want you to send them $$ for a processing fee, right? No lotto is allowed to charge a processing fee in the US. and if you send your money to a stranger, guess what happens?? don't fall for it. THere is one scam where they actually send you the check for your winnings. but they want you to send them the money by western union. so you deposit the check, send them the money and they 2 days later you find out the check was bogus.
