Eyewitness Travel Guides are fantastic. They tell you all about the sights, where they are, opening times and there are maps included. If you go to London the Original London Walks Company do some great guided walks and are very cheap.

Lonely Planet books are awesome. They offer advice on restaurants, tourism, and even give directions and prices. I have used them in over 14 countries. Have fun!
