It's definitely going to be a culture shock, but once you get past the stereotypes people are people. I've lived in Arkansas all my life, and yes you'll run into some bad apples (and hicks, rednecks, etc) and some good ones- no matter where you are. Mountain Home is a beautiful area, and I agree that Northwest Arkansas is a good spot to find some of what you may miss from California. I'd do plenty of research, and try to network online with some people in the area before you move. Here are a few Mountain Home web sites:

Good luck!

Mountain Home is a very small town. Very Cute!! If you are okay with a slow, small town with nice people, you will do great. There are no big shops or malls-- Walmart is the nicest biggest thing! But, NW AR area like Bentonville, Rogers, Springdale and Fayetteville are very close for finer dining, and great shopping. Good luck--Arkansas is a great place.
