I work at a restaurant, I am the hostess there. There is this man who washes dishes, he speaks spanish. Everytime I walk back into the kitchen he winks, whistles, screams amiga/muchacha, whatever he can do to get my attention. I hate it. Most of the time I ignore it and sometimes I just look in his direction and smirk (in a way that says ha ha not funny). No matter what I do he won't lay off. What signal can I give him to stop and mind his own business. Please, it makes me extremely uncomfortable, considering the factor that I am a teen and he is in his late 20's early 30's. Can someone please help?

Oh no! there are always creeps out there.
I usually say to myself, don't give him the power. Walk by him with your head held high and ignore him. Think of it as a challenge. Is he going to intimidate you? Tell yourself NO! You should intimidate him by walking by and not being at all bothered by his creepiness. Also, I sometimes say "Stop talking to me please" because it is polite, to the point, and usually the people are so taken off guard by the directness that they stop.

What you are experiencing is called "Sexual Harassment" and should NOT be occurring in the work place for ANY reason. You have every right to go to work without being made to feel uncomfortable by gestures (winking is included), noises (such as a cat whistle), staring up and down your body (looking at your breasts etc..) or sexual jokes or comments. You need to ask this dishwasher man to stop immediately. If he continues, you need to bring it to the attention of your supervisor the same day that this occurs. Start keeping track of what he is doing and saying by writing down the date, time and what has occurred. If your supervisor does not stop his conduct immediately you need to take this complaint to the restaurant manager or to the restaurant owner. Most businesses have strict "Sexual Harassment" policies in place and you are 100% a victim of it. Regardless of what language this man speaks he needs to be made aware of the policies at work and his conduct needs to end or he should be fired immediately! If you do not get an immediate response from your employer you need to contact an attorney and tell him/her what you have posted here. Do not be embarrassed or shy about putting an end to this dishwashers conduct. You have a right to work in a situation where you are comfortable to do your job without being sexually harassed.

Tell him you don't like it and it makes you feel uncomfortable. If he cannot respect that then go to your boss and tell him this man is harassing you. You work there but harassment was not in the job description. If things do not change then find a new job where the comfort of the employees matters.

Hi, I would suggest for you to totally ignore him and not look his way. If this continues to bother you in an uncomfortable way, then you should talk to your Boss or Supervisor about the situation. And if you are way under age I would advise you to let someone in the outside (family or friend) know what's going on as well.

First off, ignore the earlier answer suggesting you shouldn't walk around with your "titts hanging out"... Whoever sent that in must be the smartest one of their herd... she can write!
Second. If you know this guy's name, next time he's there and you walk into the kitchen tell him very loudly that if he doesn't stop his cat-calling etc, etc you will put in a complaint about him on the grounds of sexual harrassment. Problem sorted I should think.

I hope that I can help you with your question. If this guy can understand english then speak your voice and let him know that what he is doing is a form of harassment and that he needs to stop. You should also let your boss know about the situation and see if he/she may be able to put a stop to the situation. and let them know that if things don't improve either they get rid of him or you are going to be looking for a new job!

It's hard to know what u can and can't say to older men nowadays because people are crazy but I would talk to someone that he works in the back with and tell them how he's making u feel uncomfortable and see if they'll talk to him for you.

Be direct with him. Tell him that you are not interested in him, he is embarrassing you, and that you would appreciate it if he would stop. If that doesn't work, start escalating to management. It's not right for a person to abuse their position as a coworker and create a bad work environment for you.

I am sure there is a manager around somewhere.....
just mention these words to the manager "sexual harrassement LAWSUIT" and I am sure things will be handled....because you CAN sue the business for not dealing with this situation....
if the dishwasher gets fired.......so be it.......thats how it happens in life........
because, if he is doing all of that.......other co-workers have noticed.......
