As long as they're both qualified and professional, I'd be okay with either.

These days when a male doctor have to go into a private part there is usually a female nurse or someone present for the docs protection.

i prefer female doctors to male because i feel she understands the female body better than any male could. without experiencing female issues, the male doctor can only address from a clinical standpoint. gastroenterologist or otherwise.

I don't mind a male gastroentrologist stick a tube up your butt. As there only a few woman doctors that do it.

Doesn't matter to me. As long as they're fully qualified. I've had both men and women doctors over the years and have found some that are good and some that are bad. Has nothing to do with gender. And I've had a colonoscope done by men. They're professional and I was more worried about the results of the exam.

Its really up to your preference.
Some female may feel shy or uncomfortable if the doctor is male.
Truthfully, go for someone who you think knows what they are talking about. In field of science, male or female shouldn't matter.
Besides, male doctors are usually more professional with female clients. Because it just sounds weird when they say "spread your legs" So they tend to watch what they say, or they might get sued or sexual harassment.

I'm a medical student and about half my class is female, but there is a definate difference in the way patients treat the female students. Especailly old people, when I go into a room to talk with patients with a group of about 3 students, the patients almost always look and talk to me first instead of the girls, even though many of them are smarter than me. I don't really know why they do this, but it is a fact of the way patients interact with doctors.

I prefer a male doctor for when I am pregnant; one bad experience with a female OB, that was enough for me. For everything else, I have had female doctors but prefer male. They just seem easier to talk to.

I have had both for specialists, general and ob/gyn, I find the comfort level is not so much gender related, but whether I feel confident that they are through and listen and explain well. If a doctor talks down to me or skirts issues I feel very uncomfortable. I Judge by the level of professionalism and my ability to relate to them, not by gender. Often the procedures are invasive and/or awkward no matter who is doing them.
