I think it may have to be something about our busy culture. People in America (myself included) are always running around. It seems our lifestyle revolves around business. Talking loudly may just be a side effect of that.

I don't know this from personal experience, but have heard that when trying to converse with someone who speaks another language and don't understand what the Americans are saying, we are so used to using English, we don't consider the language difference, so speak louder, thinking the other person just didn't hear. Another reason is the fact that Americans are just more boisterous except for maybe the Italians.
I also don't know what "pom" is.

Uh, thats supposed to be POME, not pom. A POME is a prisoner of mother England- a bit of a friendly deragatory term for the English (it originally meant Australians, but its been turned back around on the English). And I disagree with you, I know plenty of soft spoken Americans, and a number of loud Pome's. I think you are just showing that you dont know many Americans or English.

Not all of us talk so loudly; mainly that is people from big cities where you have to speak loudly to be heard over the din. When I moved from NYC to the country, it took me a few weeks to better modulate my voice.
As for the Poms, I couldn't say. I have a friend who had Poms (dogs) and they are very yappy & loud.

What is a Pom? We are loud because we have noise all around us and are use to talking over it constantly. Everyone in this country has a point to make and often try to talk over each other to get it across. Sorry if we annoy you. I don't think it is intentional.

good question. First, I would say it's more of a cultural thing... like we stand farther apart than some cultures.
Next, it may be the particular area of the US. For example, people in the southeast speak more slowly than northerners.
My in-laws speak English infrequently-- when talking to diners at their restauarant and to me. I spend a lot of time at their restaurant and I have NOT found that people speak more loudly to them on account of their accent (which is not a "common" accent such as Spanish that people are more familiar with)
Finally, it may be that you are just more accostomed to your own native language.

Load = to put on a truck for transport, to up-load onto your computer.
How do you talk a load? I would have to move a load.
And what is 'poms'? This isn't English of any kind.
