They say that the longest war that was fought in the United States lasted 8 years, which was the Vietnam War. Do you think that the was that bush has kindled between the US and Iraq will top that record? I mean, its already about 5 years-i think-and it doesn't look like there are any plans for peace agreements.
And by the end of "war" (just an added comment), do you think the ratio of deaths of americans to Iraqis will have a HUGE difference, like 1:25???
Its kinda like a war was fought, but only one side lost something (iraqis lost homes and families) while the other side just watched (americans riot about the whole issue, but we only lose our reputation). So that can't really be a war, right???

Actually, it's still considered a "conflict" .A very costly and enduring one. War has not officially been declared. The truth is, most Americans will never truly understand the gross reality of war. Because we have not had a war fought on American soil since the Civil War. Unless you have personally lost someone to this conflict it doesn't effect you. We go about our daily lives as if the world was a peaceful place. We don't understand what it means to be displaced from our homes because it's now hostile territory or to witness family and friends killed in the cross fire. Sure we are aware that these things happen, but after it's reported on CNN we turn the channel and watch MTV or the Sopranos, or what ever it is we do to occupy our time.

Technically, the Korean war never ended and it happened 50 years...US troops are still in S. Korea. They're also in Japan from WWII.
As for 1:25, I think it's higher than that already, but take heart in the fact that the french were worse in the "Algerian Revolution" if you can (the french did lose in the end).
SO no records being broken here, but yes, "useless waste of Iraqi life" is still a better term than "war" for what's going on.

You can call it any thing you want, but when people die it is WAR. Sometimes you just have to walk away. I understand why we don't. But after Viet Nam don't know why we went in the first place. We have so much work to do here at home. Gang and Drugs taking over our streets and schools. Kids education is in the dump. Too many homeless, Jobs going to other countries we need to take care of home, then help those you can't

Actually the War in Iraq is officially over, but the second stage is ongoing which is part of the War on Terror because we are fighting terrorists in there now. Now the War on Terror i think is what you mean. It has gone on for Five years and i would bet will never end. There will always be terrorists.

If you read Mexican textbooks, you'll find the longest war is between Mexico and USA...starting at the battle of the Alamo in 1836, and to them, is still going on. They teach that the USA "stole" Texas and western USA from them and try to hold claim to them. (they don't understand "loose" and "war". But, that's ok...they are taking it back again anyway...slowly but surely.
Hasta luego senor.
