No cup holder jokes from me. But I do agree that your drive is broken. The tray runs on gears and alignment to properly close/open the tray itself. It's best to just get a new one.

If your computer is having difficulty shutting down because of the damaged drive, its risky and you could lose some information, but it seems the only two options is to hold down the power button until the PC just shuts off, or unplug the PC all together.

Follow these simple steps but remember that this writter is not responsible for any damages incured as a result. #1.Go to the garage or shed and get a hammer.#2 Hold tray in place and beat gently into slot.#3.Now just beat the crap out of the stupid computer because I know you are mad as h3ll ! life may be love but computers are a beeaach ! What kind of a computer do you have ? Oh that's right you said a broken one sorry.lol

Buy the hard drive it will be a lot cheaper than another computer oh and plugging in a hard drive is easy just go to youtube and search for how to install a hard drive its really easy to figure out you have to plug in only two cables and thats it oh and you can just look at what cables are pluged into the hard drive you already have and mark them with some tape to help you remember which ones you use

To shut down, press and hold your power button until it shuts down.

Take your PC to the nearest shop. You need a new CD-ROM drive. Yours is toast.

Besides, this gives you a chance to buy a DVD burner (does CD's too)
