i think those lyrics are from the song unwell and that it means he didn't want tell her the truth that he had mental problems cuase he not crazy just a little unwell and told her a lie so that she would not get hurt by the truth of thinking he was crazy! but really its just a song so don't worry about it too much!!!!!

I understand it like this: She has evidentally been lied to for no reason and admits that she only lies to him if she thinks it will hurt him somehow.?? I used to have that CD years ago, I dug that song too....but I am much better doing a periogy...hope it makes sense to someone else this way?
