I have had pimples since I was 13 and they haven't gone away. I have oily skin/ sensitive skin. I tried proAcvtive, but it only irritated my skin and made it red. How can I clear this up? I'm renewing my vows in 2008 and want clear skin. Any products you could suggest or any tips would be much appreciated.

Well since you have tried proactiv and made your skin irritated i would recommend you using this product from the makers of proactive its called "Rodan + Fields Unblemish" im currently using this product for almost the same reasno as you except i have some acne and my skin is oily. now the treatment takes time to kick in at least 4-6 weeks im on the 4th week and i am finally seeing results. they start you off doing it very little the first week then after that you do it more often. now if all else fails then you should see a dementoligist which i would see if my skin doesnt clear. the product is pricey $80 but they guarantee that it will work and if it doesnt work in 60 days you will get a refund without question. hope this works for you brotha ^_^

I feel your pain GIRL!! I have tried a bazillion products and it hasn't worked and I am only 13 years old! Try a healty diet, such as following the food pyramid and drink TONZ of water!!! Also, try not to drink pop because it is not good for your face! IF you want to buy a product try Clearasil Day & Night(r) ! Apply this twice a day and then move up to 3 times a day Morning, Afternoon, and Night! Just remember NEVER EVER SKIP A DAY because if you do your face will freak....i know sometimes we all feel like we need to just go to bed but you cannot skip a day!!!! Never touch or rub your face because oils on your skin may spread to other parts of your face or body and pimples may occur as a result. IF you are not interested in buying anything from a store then try the original soap and water.....this also works...there is special soap you can buy with organic stuff too! Hope you have a lot of luck...pimples are horrible :(

GO TO THE Dermatolgist. !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Over the counter stuff can do more harm then help. Never use alchahol on your face. If will weaken your pores' ablity to close tight.
PIMPLES ON THE CHIN AND JAW ARE DUE TO HORMONES.
Birth control pills will balance this out.
Whenever I have a big breakout, i go to the doc who shots some medicine into each pimple and the pimple usually goes down within 24 hours.
If you do go to the doc, he will probally prescribe antibodics which will clear it up quickly. However this solution is not a premenant one. You might need several rounds of antibodics.
The doc will tell you the best over the counter stuff you can use. A few years ago he told me to use the netrrogena oil free wash. Its faboulous and makes my skill glow and look younger. I woiuld first ask your skin doc whether its good for your skin.
I now have fewer and fewer breakouts. I also have no backheads
the only way to get rid of old scars is by getting professional facial peels from the dermologists.
Never go to anyone besides a dermatogist for the peel. There are serveral types of peels. the doc will tell you which one is good for your skin.
Dont feel bad, Acne (which is also a single pimple on the face) is genetic and sadly chronic if you have it as an adult. GEt the best advise from the doc.
best,
L

My husband and I both have had adult acne for years. We have tried everything. We tried proactive. He tried Accutane (two rounds) and every over the counter brand we could find. Nothing had ever worked until we tried Beauticontrol's "All Clear" line of skincare. It has worked so well for us that I decided to join the company as a consultant. I have used it now for about six months and my skin hasn't looked this good since I was 10. I can't say enough about it.
Set costs $59.50 It lasts about four to five months if you use it twice a day. Could last longer, but not sure since my husband and I both use it.
The "Outta Site" spot treatment is outstanding as well. $14
If you want to try it, go to my web page and order it, when I get the notice that you ordered it, I'll send you a rebate check of 25% of product cost in the mail. I'll e-mail you so that you can contact me with any questions or concerns. I'll mail you some info about the product as well. It really is great stuff and it's worth a try. I had a pizza face for over 10 years. It's humiliating to have acne problems at any age, let along when you are an adult.
beautipage.com/sacevedo is my web page

Every Day.
Your skin peels off dead skin during the night, so wash your face with soap and water in the morning. Also wash your face before you go to sleep. Don't put on any skin medicare before you sleep because of what I explained before about the peeling of dead skin.
Once a Week.
Break the yellow of an egg and mix with the white of the egg. Apply it on your face. Don't smile, talk, etc... it will form wrinkles. After it dries, take a towel and soak it with water. Next, wring the towel out. (Make sure it's still a bit wet. Then, put it in a microwave and heat for 30sec or more. Wipe off the egg with the warm towel.
You can Also.
-Wash your face with orange or lemon.
-Get Aloe. (It is a plant. Becare so that you don't get the wrong plant!) Split the plant and use the gel to wipe on your face. Wait till dry. Then, wash off.
Beware.
You may use toothpaste. It is a good thing for pimples, but it can also damage your skin if you apply it for too long, often, or much.
When you Dry off:
pat the skin with a towel... don't rub your face.

Okay first make sure you wash your face in the morning when you wake up and before you go to sleep and especially if you wear makeup!!! Try to avoid touching your face because we have bacteria on our hands that will irritate our face and cause us to break out more. Try to avoid using soap with fragrance and that is overly drying. Try using this brand called Cetiphill you can find in in your local drugstores like Longs if you have it or the famous Wal-Mart. Buy the face wash the toner and the lotion. That brand does not contain a whole lot of chemicals which can irritate the skin more. When buying face products try buying things that are non-comenogenic or dermatologist recommended or tested or what ever it says on the bottle =) good luck!

I agree with Josh G. The over the counter stuff work to an extent. They're merely topical treatments. The best way to solve acne is a combination of topical and internal treatment. Drinking a lot of water always helps. Trust me, this is coming from someone who's tried a lot of treatments. Topical takes you but so far. Your dermatologist will prescribe you stuff you can't get over the counter, such as minocycline or if serious enough, isotretinoin (Accutane). Isotretinoin is the strongest stuff out right now, and likewise with the most POSSIBLE side effects. In a nutshell, use the your medical insurance and go to a dermatologist. You're paying for it anyway, you might as well use it.

Hun, maybe you should consider going to the dermatologist. If Proactive didn't work then you have a problem that maybe internal like a hormonal imbalance. In my opinion Proactive is the best over the counter acne med but if you have severe acne that doesn't respond then you need a prescription antibacterial med or whatever a dermatologist may recommend. And it sounds like you have sensitive skin so your best bet is the skin doc.

I used to rest my head in my hands all the time, or touch my face often when I was nervous. Then I would find a bump and it would just get worse from there. Gel and Hair spray made it MUCH worse. I found not touching my face did the trick and if I did, I would wash it. And if I couldn't control myself and squeezed I put antiseptic cream over the scar that helped it clear very fast. Good luck
