I think prostitution is wrong, bad & unhealthy. But even if prostitution is a BAD choice, it should still be a LEGAL choice.

And I also feel we could limit & control prostitution better if it were legal. Child prostitution would be easier to find & stop. Prostitutes could more easily report rapists as Johns could report on theft. We could mandate STD checks. And lets not forget additional revenue for Uncle Sam!

Again, I think prostitution is a disgusting choice, but it should still be the individuals choice in a free society.

We would like to think that the government should not control morality, but they should to some extent. What kind of world would this be if morality was not controlled at all. Usually in the event of prostitution, someone is getting hurt. In some circumstances, someone is being cheated on. And then even though the prostitute is doing this willingly, she sacrifices her dignity until she goes numb and just doesn't care, while others do such as loved ones who are concerned for her health and well being. Also don't forget about all the wonderful diseases you can get from someone that you have no idea who they have been with before.

I don't think that making prostitution legal would make this world a better place.

On another note, may I be the devil's advocate, If you want to be a prostitute or sleep with one, do porn.
just kiddin'

Sure - go ahead a legalize it - let's even go further and set a commission to regulate it and enforce it. Gosh, those would be tax dollars well spent.

Women don't think they can control their husbands. There is however an expectation in a marriage that men will keep their promise to stay faithful to them. If the husband decides not to, then the marriage is in jeopardy - the same way it is if a woman decides not to. Legalization of prostitution would not change that one way or the other.

Morality is not controlled by government - it's a personal choice of deciding to do what's right or wrong.

At this time, the majority of the country seems to think that prostitution is unacceptable in society. It adds more corruption, and opens the door for more women to be exploited by men who want to make money off them if it's legalized. Now only the low-lifes who don't care about the law exploit it.

So with that said, NO, I don't think prostitution should be legalized.

Yes.

I would never recommend prostitution as a career choice, but there are many reasons to legalize it. The government has no business sticking it's nose into our bedrooms. Prostitution is a moral issue, not a legal one. People, especially women, have sex for gain all the time, but it's only considered prostitution if money changes hands. Morally, what's the difference? One of the reasons people say it should be illegal is that it encourages other crimes - people who prostitute themselves to buy drugs, for example - and disease is prevalent. However, if prostitution were legal, it could be regulated. Prostitutes could be required to have monthly drug and health checks (paid for themselves), for example. Pimps would be a thing of the past if prostitutes didn't need "protection." Minimum age limits could be imposed - no more teenagers. If it became legal, they would have to pay taxes on their income. And finally, if we weren't spending so much time and money tracking down, arresting, prosecuting, and housing (in jail) prostitutes, that time and money could be better spent. Part of it would go to regulation, of course, but now maybe the system could spend more time on people who are really doing damage.

I'm going to jump up on my soapbox for a minute here - making prostitution illegal is just one more way that power is taken from women. Sex is one of the few commodities that men cannot provide for themselves ("insert" m@sturbation joke here). But by making sex "bad", the value of that commodity lessens, as does the value of the woman who provides it.

laws are about morality, mostly so, at least when they're proposed. as for prostitution in other countries where it is legal. its taxed as well as having medical requirements for the pros. there is a huge criminal element still behind the scenes. many of the ladies are part of white slavery rings. they're drugged, they're beaten abducted and made to whore themselves.
where it does work in Europe, the ladies are inspected weekly, and work in safe policed houses or other areas. these places have less to no reported incident of rape and other sex even drug crimes. they can loose their permits to hook if they're caught doing drugs. Ive asked a similar question, about drugs. i think each state should make their own laws or like Vegas just not make law about it at all. prostitution is not legal in Nevada, its just not unlawful.

immoral politicians can't control anyone's morality. morality can't be mandated by laws. that's evident in everything that is going on.
ii don't see what women controlling men has to do with prostitution however, i wonder about the man that PAYS for a piece, and what the problem is that he can't get it free.
the whole world is going to hell in gasoline drawers (underwear).

If prostitution was legal I would want all panderers and pimps jailed for life or executed. Otherwise we are just compounding the drug and crime problems.

It takes some diseases years to show up... no tests before they show... how many would get infected by these pro's?

Interesting thought though.
