it's gilmore girls (plural). i'd highly recommend it. it'll be in its 7th season this fall on the new network the cw.
get your hands on the dvds of the past seasons. you'll be able to catch on really quickly. it's basically about a mother and daughter who are only 16 years apart and their lives in a small town and all the quirky chracters they come in contact with, plus the misc. men who come in and out of their lives. season one is one of my favorites, so you should try it! you might be able to get the dvds from the library, even.

Gilmore Girls.
I love the show (see my name), I obsess over this show. It is definitely worth watching. ABC Family airs seasons 1-5 and at the moment they are in late season 2. You can buy the DVDs or rent them from a local video store if available. Season 6 just finished on May 9th, 2006 and on September 19th, 2006, season 7 premieres and season 6 comes out on DVD.
The show airs on the WB every Tuesday night at 8/7 Central, These episodes are from the latest season, season 6. ABC Family airs episodes at 5/4 Central.
In September (projected to be the 6th) the WB and UPN will close up shop and The CW will be born. On this day, Gilmore Girls' new season and any other that they may (and hopefully will) have will be shown on this new network.
The show's dialogue is snappy and their pop culture references are quick so you have to keep your ears sharp, but once you see a few episodes, you'll get into it. Below I've listed a few sites which may get you into the show or help you out with facts you didn't know but were interested in.
I hope everything I have said helps you out! Hopefully you'll become a fan!

Gilmore girls (plural) refers to the main characters- Lorelai and her daughter Rory (but also partially to Lorelai's mother, Emily Gilmore)
The 6th season just ended but the 7th (and possibly last) season will begin on September 19th. Since the WB and UPN have combined to form a new network, it could be on the old WB or UPN channel, depending on where you live...check cwtv.com to find out what channel. It will be on at 8pm on Tuesday
Also, for re runs it's on monday-friday on ABC family at 5pm.
Or you could rent them from a movie rental place (I don't know which ones exactly have them, because I own all the DVDs). If you have netflix you could do that as well.
I personally have seen every episode, and I absolutely love this show. So my answer is obviously going to be yes. It also gets really confusing if you don't follow it consistently.
My friend who doesn't really watch it decided to watch an episode in the 6th season, and she was confused the entire time. She had NO idea what was going on. Lol
If you don't want to, or don't have time to watch ALL the episodes, you could read episode/season reviews...Which is better than nothing. At the least you need to know the main characters and plots...There are quite a few of both. But it's definitely important to understand the characters and their relationships to one another...Because that's the basis of the show.
A good site is gilmoregirls.org...But there are many out there, do a quick search for 'Gilmore girls' on the internet and you'll find quite a few good ones.
Happy watching!

Try to find some of the first episodes so you can get the background and I think you definately will be hooked. I even got my husband interested in watching it. I especially liked it when Rory was younger. Quirky characters, rapid fire conversation, interesting relationships. It's all good.
