Is it a decent amount to charge your brother-in-law for room and board for $250.00 a mos. I would think that it is a very reasonable amount because, renting a room nowadays in some parts is very expensive.

It depends on the situation. If hes working, you need to take into consideration his use of electricity, water, food. See how much your bills have increased since he has moved in. Does he make a lot of long distance calls on your phone or does he have his own? When my step-daughter lived with me I had her pay for all her toll calls,or minutes used on my cell phone, Had her pay $ 100.00 per month toward electric, she ran the air conditioner 24-7 along with a fan even in winter,Since I cooked dinner everynight I had her chip in for groceries unless she helped me out with watching her younger siblings, otherwise if she wanted certain items from the store she gave me money to pay for them, and since we both had several cats apiece we would take turns buying the cat food and litter every month. If you are helping your brother-in-law out because he can't afford his own place and he is doing alot of thing for you around the house, then you would have to consider what it would be costing you to pay someone else to do the things he is doing. Hope this helps you.

Hey he will not find anything cheaper, if he could he wouldn't be at your home. This is decent and he can save his money to move into his own apartment or room later.

I hope he appreciate it, because he can't afford to pay for the inconvenience of your privacy.

Yeah 250 seems reasonable for a room/food/water/etc. He should pay for his own phone calls though.

You are not charging enough. it should be around $400 or $500 a month. And if you are cooking for him it should be more.

It's a fair amount if he contributes to other things like groceries or picking up a bill here and there. As long as he is not a slob I think that is fair. Remember you are not his maid/mother and he should be able to clean up after himself and contribute where he can.

If he is living in one room yes. Not for rent, utilities and food. More like 400.

That depends, does he have a job or is he in school? I'd also go with how much it would cost him if he were to rent his own place. And also it would depend on the reasons why he's living with you to begin with.

It depends on the cost of living in your area and don't forget the cost of utilities...
