I like that name but i agree with you that it is a little childish. I used to work at a daycare and there was a two year old we called Libby. But it fit her because her real name was Elizabeth and that sounded too mature for her at that age. But if your friend prefers you call her that then at least try it out before you say you like her real name more. And if that does not work you can always fall back on the excuse that Libby is a brand of corned beef in a can. I think if you call her corned beef for a week she will get over it.

I think the name is cute...it's different and you don't hear it a lot!! Why do you hate it so much? It's just a name!! Maybe you can reason with your friend and tell her why you don't like the name! But, I think it's cute! And I'm not trying to be mean, but...you shouldn't really have any say in what she wants to be called by other people! You have a say in what you call her, but not by everyone else! (please don't take that as me being mean) And I really don't think that it sounds like a 3 yr. old & I don't think it's dumb either!! But that's just my opinion...

If you don't like it say so, but don't ask us if we like her name better if you are not going to tell us what her name is. I personally do not like the name Libby and in your next question, you make it sound like YOU are the one who wants to be called Libby? I am going to tell you right now, that if you acquire a nickname it's usually from family or friends (they decide what they want to call you) if your name is Robert, and your family calls you "Bob" or Bobby or even (and this is bad Bo-Bo, but don't laugh too hard because I knew a "Bo-Bo") his family called him that all of his life and it stuck like gum on his shoe, to this day in that little town he is still Bo-Bo. That always sounded like a monkey name to me!
The name Libby makes me think of the jingle for the canned fruit and vegetables that goes "If it says Libby's Libby's Libby's on the label label label, you will like it like it like it on your table table table. Maybe if it's a name for HER, you could live with that? Good luck!

Libby....reminds me of one of the most beautiful popular girls I knew that lived on my block. We used to play barbies together all the time when in elementary school (almost 20 years ago). It was short for Elizabeth in her case.

It definitely is a pretty unique name. The only other time I heard the name was on the show Sabrina the teenage Witch. Personally I'm not to fusy on it just because it reminds me of "Lippy" but that's just me.
