Sounds like she may want to contact her ob doctor. They would be able to give her the best answer on something like this. The doctor may want to do another pelvic exam to make sure everything is okay.

No, it is not okay. How did she determine that it is a piece of placenta? Not every clump would be a piece of placenta.
If she *did* pass some placenta, the doctor and hospital didn't do their job. They are supposed to *check* if the placenta is whole after the birth, and, if they aren't sure, they should have done more investigation. It can be very dangerous to retain a piece of placenta...

There is often very heavy period bleeding after having a first baby. If the blood pools in the uterus for a few minutes before coming out it can look alot like a piece of the placenta (shiny, red-maroon colored) If it breaks up easily in your fingers then it is a blood clot noy a piece of the placenta. By three months post partum any placenta pieces would be smelly and greyish and have fibers like liver.

Are you sure it was placenta? Or was it a small clot? That's definetly not ok, she needs to call her doc or the hospital right away.
thats why they check the placenta over really well after the baby comes out so that they know the whole thing is there.

after that period of time she should definately not have pieces of placenta still stuck in her. The doctor is supposed to examine the placenta at birth to be sure it is intact because it can cause infection if left in the body. It may just be the normal byproducts of childbirth.

well I've got three boys all within three and a half years my youngest son is also three months old and that has never happened to me . Would get checked and probably call a lawyer to sue Doc because they should have seen whether the placenta was intact or not and dealt with it right at the birth. I hope that helps.

All of the placenta should have been passed immediately after birth. She should get to a doctor and get examined, there could be more in there.

hmm...how does she know it is placenta? And the placenta comes out with the baby so It may be after birth? Umm...except for her natal doctor is supposed to make sure that it all comes out after the birth. This sound a little "funny" you may want to have her talk to her doctor.

No she should have her uterus examined by cat scan
There may be more fragments still there and passing them could cause serious hemorraging.
The wife of a good friend almost bled to death while expelling a portion of placenta one month after she gave birth. Quick ambulance reponse and good hospital medical attention saved her.

my guess is that it is just a blood clot that looks like a piece of liver? that is ok she just is still emptying. if she has a fever there is trouble. if it was placenta she would have a utern infection and fever. call your obgyn and ask if your daughter should be seen.good luck. i think she is ok.

She should go to the doctor. Sometimes, rarely, pieces of afterbirth tissue can remain in the uterus and cause infection. They will do a D&C to get any remaining tissue out if that is what the problem is. Call the doc!
