It was initially planned that they would come out with a 7, 8, and 9. However, more recently, it was announced that they would not. Sorry.

Officially NO. But then after the first three George said he was done. (and look what happened)

The story has always been (fact/rumor who knows) That George originally outlined a massive story - but realized it had to be many films. Not knowing if it would succeed he picked "A New Hope" (Episode IV) to start with. Since it was a hit, he then could say he was doing a trilogy and shot Empire and Jedi.

Obviously the 1-3 were the rise of Darth Vader and The Empire, 4-6 were the rise of his son Luke and the fall of the Empire...

...and one rumor has been that episodes 7-9 would be the tale of Leia and Han Solo's twin Jedi children... vs some sort of Sith kidnapping.

Now George says he's not going to go there. But he's said that before. And he also let others direct before... so it's conceivable that when we've all bought every version on DVD and whatever format comes after that he'll see a way to make some money on 7-9, perhaps farming it out to a trusted director...

But don't hold your breath.

(don't like that verion, the link below is a fan's detailed plot for 7,8 & 9)

That was a rumor started years ago that Lucas has repeatedly denied. Basically, "Return of the Jedi" is, chronologically, the last movie in the series. To experience the later adventures of Luke, Han, Lei and others, I would suggest reading the novels and comic book tie-ins.

The good news is that this is not the end of Star Wars, however. Lucas did announce about a year or so ago that he was wanting to do a live action television series based on the movie saga. The movies would take place in between "Revenge of the Sith" and "A New Hope" and would involve all new characters.

As for when the show will premier, that won't be for some time yet. They are still working on the scripts and have not yet gotten even to the stage of casting yet. Obviously, as the series progresses, you (and the rest of the world) will hear much more about it.

George Lucas has said over and over he will NOT be making anymore Star Wars movies. He has a Jillion dollars and can continue to release the 6 he's already made over and over. The latest I heard was that Lucas was planning to reformat the 6 movies into 3D. This could be incredible if done well, but damn this guy just keeps tweaking his movies and sending em out again cuz us lemmings will keep paying for em.

George says no, but I think he's playing a game. He just wanted time to get the first trilogy ready to release on DVD (again) in its "original" form and he needed time to prepare the extras. I'm sure that 7, 8, and 9 will be made someday, but maybe not by George (possibly one of his children.....). Let's face it, Hollywood has a nasty habit of milking any movie franchise dry; all in the name of big box office. Why would they stop with Star Wars? Even if they have to wait to buy the rights from his family or estate; I think these films will be made someday.....

I thought i heard something forever ago that there would be a sequel trilogy. I have read about 30 novels leading up to about 20 years after Return of the Jedi and I have to admit the plots have been almost better then the original trilogy.

I could have swore that novel writers could only write so far into the "future" of the original trilogy so that there wouldn't be any contradictions in the timeline if they did produce a sequel trilogy.

Last I heard, Lucas was done with Star Wars.

No. I did examine most of the different solutions on your question and that i disagree that the 1st trilogy replace into so undesirable. Granted, George Lucas could have made extra clever video clips. while Episode III replace into released, George Lucas denied any rumors that there replace right into a third trilogy to be made. i comprehend that he has different projects that he needs to artwork on.

I don't think so I've heard somewhere he was going to stop with 3. You can be sure that someone out there will buy the rights to make them. Star wars is like Star Trek they will always make new movies.

I'm sorry, no. The last one is the 6th one, which is (as you know) Star Wars: Return of the Jedi. This WAS the end as you can tell from watching it, and Episode III (Revenge of the Sith) is the last episode ever to be made.
