the us team is pretty much a disgrace and i must agree with you that i am embarassed too. but i wasn't all that shocked by how poorly they have played... the us doesn't have a strong enough soccer program to have a good national team. so instead i'm cheering for germany since i'm german.

I don't feel embarrassed by the play of the US team.

Honestly, they've just been the victim of a very unlucky draw this year. Regardless of what others may have said, I felt that this was the real group of death. The Czech Republic has become one of the top elite teams in the world, and Italy has long been considered one of the best as well. Ghana is no joke either, as they have proven. The game against the Czechs may have looked very bad, but all it takes it being a little bit off and a team as good as theirs will take full advantage. As an example, the Brazilians lost to The French in the 1998 finals 3-0. The game against the Italians was a very good showing, especially considering the referee. One thing I am very proud of the US team for is that unlike many other European and South American teams, they don't thrash about in agony for 5 minutes, get carried off on a strecher, only to return to play 2 minutes later. I really don't understand why that kind of behavior isn't considered worthy of serious embarassment everywhere.

I am actually proud of how the Americans have played so far. OK, they lost to Czech Republic badly, but didn't they come back really strongly with a positive attitude and spirited display to hold Italy to a draw? I am really shocked to see Americans everywhere moaning about their team not being able to beat the Italians - what have you been drinking, people? Seriously.

If the czechs beat them 3-0, then the Italians could have easily inflicted a more severe 5-0 or 10-0 drubbing! Many of my friends didn't even bother to watch the Italy game, because they thought that the obvious was gonna happen. But I and my roommate still decided to watch it in the afternoon & despite how ugly the match turned out to be, I was really proud of how USA performed to hold Italy down. In an elated mood, I went to share my joy with the Americans & look what I heard - you were all showing disappointment because you couldn't beat the Italians! Come on, wake up people - be practical, do you really think the US team can pull off victories against world-class European sides on European soil??? Think again and feel proud for how your country showed courage and spirit despite being at a disadvantaged situation. Now back your team tomorrow to thrash Ghana! Also hope for Italy to beat the czechs.

USA! USA! USA!

i'm not, i really don't care. don't get me wrong, i'm as patriotic as anyone, if the team did well in the world cup that would be cool, i would certainly pull for them and who knows, i might even start watching and get interested in it. i know i got into it during the womens world cup 5 or 6 years ago when they beat china on penalty kicks in the final. remember that? it was pretty cool, the whole country kinda got into it for a couple of weeks there. but after a while things got back to normal and again, no one cared about soccer. that's the way it would be if the mens team did well here. we'd all get into it for a while but then a month from now no one would give a damn about soccer again. that's why i'm really not concerned with the fact that they're NOT doing well, because in the end what really matters is there are 2 and a half months left to football season, that's what we american sports fans really care about, anything else is just a diversion

Well, I regret I won't be around for tomorrow. It's a shame, but we're just not much of a soccer country compared to Europe. Compared to most CONCACAF countries outside Mexico, I think we're alright. We've already placed higher than Costa Rica, who is already out, so we must be happy with that.

So what, we're not the gretest soccer country in the world. Boohoo. The world cup wouldn't be anything if it were easy. Once this is over, the national team will still exist, as will our domestic league system (MLS/USL).

I'm a happy fan. Go Colorado Rapids!

Embarrassed by our play against the Czechs, yes. But not how they played against Italy. They could have easily fallen apart as they did in 1998, and didn't, staying with the Italians even after losing Mastroeni and Pope, being down a man for the entire second half.

And they're still alive. We need some help from the Italians, but it isn't over yet.

Why would you be embarassed of the team?

Okay, so soccer is still a novelty in the US, and the standard of soccer, even in the MLS, is way below Europe or South America. What we need to do is go out and teach kids the game, and organize little league soccer. The way I see it, soccer is like the pioneers going out west. Soccer is still in its infancy stages in America.

Viewed in this light, the fact that the US qualified for the World Cup is an achievement itself, and those guys out there are playing their hearts out as pioneers in a land of soccer giants.

Sure the team do alot of running and play like kids against men, but we should support and cheer them on.

We may not have the best team, but I´m very proud of how we played against Italy. We really played our butts off and held our own against a team that´s widely recognized as one of the best.
