Well, it really depends. Are you getting just the uterus out or the ovaries, too.

I had just my uterus out because of sever bleeding. It was the best thing ever.

I felt a bit tired and a bit sore for about two or three weeks. Then I got better. For a few months, if I went on long walks or did quite a bit of lifting, I had some pulling pain (not bad) on the insicion line. Other than that, no problems.

I had no beleding afterwards. That meant I got stronger quickly. I no longer have to worry about carrying "supplies" or counting vacations for the right time of month. I feel very free. Sex did not change at all, except that it is never a bad time. (Of course, there is the usual first few weeks when you don't to let it heal.) But there was no change in sensations for either me or my husband. The only thing I can not do that I used to do was get pregnant, but I have four kids, so it is good enough.

Try to relax. Most people I have talked to say it was the best thing they ever did. If you have your ovaries out, then you can expect some hormonal changes, but your doctor should be helping with managing those.

The first thing that will happen is that your problems in relation to the hysterectomy will be over. Only you know why you are having it, but doctors don't do hysterectomies lightly, so you must have had a serious problem. That's over now.
You will likely be on medication for a while, Lipitor or some esterogen-like compound, so you aren't pitched into what is known as surgical menopause.
And after that, the bottom line is nothing is going to happen except you won't get pregnant. You won't put on weight unless you start overeating and quit exercising. You won't go mental. You won't do any of the things that you hear about in old wives tales. What you will be able to do is enjoy a full and productive life. This is first hand information, because I had a hysterectomy and not only was able to do all the things I did in my younger years, I was able to do them better.
I just won five gold medals at a swim meet, so it really hasn't affected me that much...
Trust your doctor, follow his/her instructions, and look forward to enjoying life.

You can still lead a very full life after the surgery. I would recommend talking to your doctor about hormone replacement therapy. There are pros and cons to discuss and just make the right decision for you. You could also think of it as a free ticket out of PMS-ville. Take care

My wife says it is the greatest thing that has happened to her.

Some problems with hot flashes but not much. Everything else works fine, no periods and no pregnancy worries so sex is more fun.

She says "Good Luck".
