You can use both firefox and internet explorer side by side.
If you have made firefox your default browser, then you need to start internet explorer then type in the website address you want to visit as clicking on a shortcut or link will open your default browser.

I have firefox, internet explorer, opera, netscape and seamonkey on my computer and they all work okay together

Firefox and Internet explorer are just internet browsers, therefore you should have no problems running both at the same time, actually I do all the time. You just open Internet explorer just like Firefox, they can be open at the same time. (Wouldn't it be nice if we never had to use IE?)

This seems to basic. Just open internet explorer in one window and open firefox in the other. Did you word the problem wrong?

The two browser can run at the same time without any problems - I do it all the time. Another alternative is to install the IE tab and/or IE view extension for Firefox.
