Personally, I don't like to shake hands with men....makes me feel like one of the guys. I know in business you don't have the option but to shake hands. I would suggest using your free hand to support either her elbow or forearm as you hold the "shaking" hand. And, I wouldn't actually "shake" her hand...just hold it as you greet her. I think that would be appropriate and respectfully acknowledge that she's a woman.... yet not too intimate to cause a problem. Most of us enjoy being treated like women. And, BTW....if you hold the door for me, not only will I smile but I'll also say thank you.

I used to give a hearty handshake to both, but I was discussing this with my neighbor a few months back, and he recommended that I go lighter with women. I feel that a good handshake is the most sincere, but he pointed out that a lot of women prefer something softer. Just take a woman's palm and shake gently. To be honest with you, I hate a limp handshake, but some ladies prefer it.

Well yeah. Woman generally have more delicate hands and surely smaller ones. But the grip is basically the same. Some women prefer just a gentle two hand cradle. You know, take her one hand in both of yours and cradle for just a moment.

Well, don't squeeze a woman's hand as hard as you would a man's. Be gentle, but firm; let them know that you're a respectable man, but also a gentleman. There are, however, women who like to do the kiss-on-the-cheek thing. All I can say is, do whatever you're comfortable with.

There is no difference. Use the same method you use when shaking a man's hand--the grip should be firm and strong.

huh... never thought about it.... but i guess it seems tht when u would shake a man's hand it would be with more grip and "tighter" than if u were to shake a females hand... think bout tht next time u encounter a woman and are forced to shake her hand!

Yes, I know that more feminine women like to be handled with care instead of a rough, strong handshake. Just because they are professional feminists doesn't mean that they are not female. So, be light.

I don't really think it should... but just today my boss said that an interview he had kind of freaked him out because she shook his hand so hard... I think it gave him a bad impression...
