It's much like any other sort of sales, just like selling cars or cell phones often times you'll work long long hours and when you start out you'll likely not make much money at all. You're paid based on what you sell. if you don't sell any houses for 2 months then you've worked for basically free for the past 2 months. If you sell 10 houses in 2 months you can expect to make a killing. But with market fluctuations and more people selling their own properties these days I wouldn't necessarily call it a "secure" career. But if you have a ton of ambition and are willing to work the 70 hour work weeks that would be necessary to get off to a fast start it could be a good choice.

Not necessarily. It depends on the housing market. It's straight commission so no sales no income! Ouch.
