A sharp-looking and more fuel-efficient response to the Hummer craze. Most new cars tend to look ugly at first, but then we to get used to them. I thought the Honda Element was ugly when I first saw it, but it makes more sense now that Ford and Dodge are coming out with boxier designs. We went round in the 90s (the 1996 Ford Taurus a prime example); apparently it's time for square and angular to have their turn again.

Another rarity from Toyota, a mistake. Nice retro design without the goods to back it up. If all you want is style, not a bad choice, but truthfully, you'd be better off finding and old F series cruiser and restoring it if you want the style, or better yet an older Land Rover, like the Defender 110 you see is safari footage. Retro throwbacks only last if they work really well as modern cars too. The VW Beetle and Chrysler PT Cruiser are examples of this. Other retros that did not work as modern cars include the latest Thunderbird and the SSR pick-up thing from Chevy. The FJ Cruiser looks to be more like the last two, though the Toyota quality will likely make it a bit more successful. Still, my money says it's out of production in less than 4 years.

They look great but don't get much in the way of gas mileage. I am looking for a new car and that was one of the one's that I have been checking out. The two other negatives are that Toyota does not offer individual options, you must buy a package which may include options you don't want. Also, since it is a new model, there is no proven track record for the car. That said, Toyota in general has a great track record for reliablility.

I am still giving it some thought but I am hesitant despite the cool look.

Fj stands for petrol--Hj stands for diesel.I own a Hj and it is great, but with the cost of fuel these days you would be better to get one on gas if you are getting an Fj.
