From what I can tell, your computer is a laptop that includes and v.90 modem. The most current modem version is a v.92. The question I would ask myself is why do i want to upgrade. Due to the fact that upgrading internally is almost impossible it would have to be an external modem that would connect in via a usb port. Is there connection problems with the Internet or why do you want to upgrade. If it is connection problems, try a different access number for your ISP (Ie AOL, Juno and a million others) . Some ISP's don't support v.92, which would mean an upgrade would be useless. The main difference between v.90 and v.92 is that v.92 allows a faster time to connect, and modem on hold. Although there are options, i would do some more research first if I were you.

Do you have an ethernet card in the Sony? If not, now's the time! Don't even bother with a modem, unless you use a fax. There hasn't been an upgrade since the current 56Kbps came out. The reason being, ETHERNET 10/100. The rise in ADSL has made the modem almost as obsolete as the floppy drive. Everyone wants a network card, not a modem. You can get a 56Kbps V.90 fax, data, modem for $6.99 USD + $4.99 S&H.

The modem in that unit is as fast a modem as you can get.
If you need something faster, you are going to have to go broadband through either the Ethernet or USB connector.
