I can't move my mouse! There is nothing wrong with it, it hasn't fallen or anything like that. I was simply going on a site when I couldn't move my mouse! Please do not laugh! This is serious! By the way, I know this question shouldn't be at hardware, but I just couldn't put it somewhere else since I can't move my mouse. And I hardly even got here to write this question!

im not sure..
but it's happened to me before.
the freezing of the mouse may be due to adware/spyware so you might want to scan your system to rid of them.
or.
the motherboard could be old/ and may be on its way to ruin.

Actually, it might be hardware. Is your mouse optical or does it have a ball on the bottom. Turn it over and see if there is a ball. If not, there should be a little light. If it has a light, it's an optical mouse (better, in my opinion).

If it has a ball, dust and dirt could have gotten up inside. The ball turns two small shafts. These shafts pick up the dirt and dust and can get jammed and stop turning. Just like the spinning brush on a vacuum cleaner. The hole the ball is in should be in a separate piece with can be removed. This will let you pull the ball out and clean it. But it is more important to clean the parts inside. This is really where the problem is. Until I got an optical mouse I had to clean my ball mouse all the time.

Hope this helps.

Sometimes my mouse does that, too. It's just a screen glitch of some sort. If there is not a problem with the mouse, try pressing the buttons control, alt, and delete all at the same time. That should get your task manager to pop up. This releases your screen from this "freeze mode" that your mouse is in, and allows you to move it again!

Hope this helps!

Try all the above methods mentioned and if you still cant get your mouse to work, try rolling back the driver etc

Just how will you read this afterwards if your mouse aint working unless you are a shortcut wizard or using another pc?

Or you need to undo the bottom and clean the ball of the mouse, it tends to collect gunk from mousepads, spilled drinks, etc.
Or you need to just replace it, its fairly cheap. Better than using the arrow keys to go up and down to navigate around. I know I've been there.

sometimes if its dirty, it prevents it from working properly. if its a mouse that has the little ball underneath it, that it rolls on. it could be that it is dirty, and thats why its not working. just open the bottom take the ball out, clean it off, and put it back in. and then it should work, if thats the problem.

Check to make sure it is still connected to your computer. It could have come unplugged. Is your mouse on a dark object rather than a shiny one?

If its not wireless, then you may need to take out the ball and clean the wheels with alchol. Lot of times they get caked with grime and will not be able to roll.
