You would gain extreme speed on your processor. Basically you can open like 50 applications at the same time and you wont lag or get a memory error. RAMS are good for scanning our hard drive. As we open programs, RAM processor will scan our hard drive to locate and launch the application. You cant see it happening behind the motherboard, but you can feel the speed. It will scan your computer faster, you will be able to load as many programs as you want without any issues. 1 GIG is already awesome, 2 GIGSs would mean a lot more power.

Go to http://www.4allmemory.com/ or http://www.newegg.com for some cheap rams. You can get pretty much any brand name since they function the same way. I usually stick to Kingston, but its really up to you. Some like Samsung or Western Digital. I think they are all the same, some might be cheaper than others.

Get a DDR2 SDRAM, you already know the type of Ram you need so just do a search for it.

First go to: http://www.memoryx.net/powg3wal.html and look up the model of your powerbook. It will tell you what your maximum RAM upgrade is. You might not be able to put more than 1 GIG so check it out first.

When buying a new system, the amount of RAM installed is a critical factor to consider. Sure, a faster processor promises more speed, but it can't deliver that speed without enough RAM. In fact, a moderately fast chip with enough RAM can outperform a faster chip with inadequate memory. But before you pay the higher price for a system with more RAM, consider upgrading after you buy the PC.

Here's why: With memory prices at an all-time low, you may be better off price-wise by NOT loading the system up with memory at the time of purchase. Rather, save money and add memory AFTER the purchase. Buy memory direct from Crucial and you're guaranteed the same high-quality memory installed in today's leading machines at a low, factory-direct price.

DDR2 SDRAM

You plan to add more RAM to your laptop by yourself? Well to answer each of your questions ...

1. You would gain faster application speed as more RAM equals more things it can store at a time meaning that it will need to generate less data each time you input a command. As well, you will be able to open more programs.
However the disadvantages is that if you add a RAM stick worse than your current 1GB, it might cause the two sticks to battle each other and cause minor problems.

2. If you are planning to add more RAM, you will need to get DDR2 SDRAM, the same type that matches your current RAM, at preferrably the same speed, usually 400mHz. As well, I suggest you get a 1GB ram since adding anything lower is not very practical, especially when you need to add it in a laptop.

the more RAM you have the faster your computer can handle more programs. 1 gig will basically let you run a lot of programs. If you have a certan procceser speed though it can only handle so much RAM. If you want 1 gig dont buy a 1 gig stick buy 2 512 mg stics then put them in the laptop. This is only like 10 dollars more then the 1 gig and they will bounce back from eachother and it is better.

Adding more RAM increases the performance of your system for many applications although1GB is good enough for every job you want to do. You have to check the manufacturer website or call the customer service to see what kind of RAM is compatible with your system or you can get the detailed information by searching online.

the quick answer is to function a single 2GB reminiscence module into your laptop's boost slot. 3GB entire of single channel reminiscence is in all probability to be extra efficient than 2GB of twin channel. a million) 32-bit domicile windows will in user-friendly terms use approximately 3.25 GB of reminiscence no matter how lots RAM you have put in. the extra does not harm, even yet it truly is disregarded by making use of the equipment. 2) twin channel demands that the two reminiscence modules have the comparable means and velocity. sometimes you could blend-and-tournament distributors and get twin channel, yet that may not constantly artwork - relies upon on the motherboard. The worst that occurs is the reminiscence will artwork in wide-spread, single channel mode. that's no longer a great loss. 3) upload the 2GB module. low-value, rapid and effortless. 4) twin (triple or quadruple) channel is a function of the motherboard. reminiscence modules do no longer comprehend or care that they are being utilized in assorted channel configurations.

Not sure about MACs but on PCs you would get an increase in high ram usage programs, like MPEG to DVD transcoding etc.
and you would be able to run more programs at once without the system getting slowed down by constant swapping to the hard disk.
