I know it has been a while since this question was first posed, however, I am astonished at some of the answers people gave. In actual fact Ireland has three national animals. They are the Stag (Red Deer), the Irish Wolfhound and the Lapwing. The Stag is probably the most widely used symbol, it featured on Irish coinage before the introduction of the Euro. It's image also featured on the armorial achievement of the Kingdom of Ireland.

Well I took about 15 mins looking and couldn't find anything. I have never heard of a national animal.
Maybe someone from Ireland will come across this and tell ya.

Thats a difficult question, because Ireland is split, so its not "national" so to speak. There is Republic of Ireland and Northern Ireland, both very different. So it would be very difficult to locate that info, simply because of politics.

if it was an animal it would be a horse they are every where in ireland

I think it's the Stag,although there's always a Guiness Penguin in every Irish Pub I've ever been in.
