It seems like the general concensus is that getting pregnant is bad, that children are bad, that they ruin your life. I don't understand this mentality.

I'm almost 23. My girlfriend is almost 26. She doesn't want to have children ever. She hates them, says she doesn't understand why anyone would ever want to have one on purpose.

I don't know who you've been talking to, but everyone I know is extremely happy about getting pregnant. Some tried for a long time before it happened for them. It is joyous, not horrid.

I think that is true only when speaking of a girl who is not ready to be a mother. When a girl or young woman gets pregnant before she is financially stable, is married, etc, pregnancy is viewed as a bad thing. She should spend her youth developing herself and figuring out what she wants to do with her life and taking steps toward making those dreams become a reality. Children make doing these things very hard. Babies and young children require constant supervision and lots of resources both emotionally and financially. Babies require stability in thier lives and young parents are often not able to provide that stability. Babies are VERY expensive. If you cannot afford to properly care for a baby then having one can be considered a very bad thing. Once a woman is established in her life, has a career, a loving and stable partner, etc., then pregnancy is considered a good thing. In this situation children are considered good and that they enhance your life.

After reading your additional information I would like to add the following. Not everyone likes and/or wants to have children. Your girlfriend seems to be one of these people. This is a major issue in any relationship. The fact that you two have such opposite opinions is a HUGE red flag. If I were you, I would seriously consider ending the relationship and finding someone you are more compatible with. I don't want to sound mean, and I'm sure you love her. However, why would you want to invest your emotional energy in someone who doesn't have a fundamental view in common with you. Good luck!

I travel in very different circles than you do. In my world, children are a gift and they are the purpose of life, and they give purpose to life. Too often the woman finding herself pregnant is not in an ideal situation, however, that does not negate the gift itself. I have no doubt that I was put on this earth to be mom to my three children. Anyone that believes children ruin your life, have a very sad life and they should take a long hard look at themselves.

I think it just seems that way because there are so many unmarried, young people having sex -- people that are not at all ready to have children. You may be really young yourself and hear more of that sort of thing than I do in the circle of friends that I have. I have four children of my own, and almost all of my friends have children...to us, pregnancy is a blessing, but when you're too young and unprepared, it can be a very scary thing.

Because their idiots and they have lossed or missed something in life they cannot recover. There are only two things that regulate people in life. One is the laws that govern us as an entity and protect us from bad people and , Two the beliefs that we have as individual people with the intelligence to think and decide for ourselves what is best or right for us. Sometimes people get lost and do not know their sphincter from a termite tunnel and try to pass off what they think (thinking not their best attribute) as fact.
Do yourself a favor, listen to your heart and use your mind to direct what you do within the laws of our society and you will be great, I promise.

Well it depends especially now that women are getting pregnant younger. Maybe it is that we have been taught not to get pregnant at a young age, to live life while your young, and that children are so much to handle that I guess our minds get so lazy we just think not to get pregnant at all or we will ruin our chances of having fun and living life.

I must be walking around with my head up my a$$. I have 2 nieces who are due in July . We are having parties and there is a pool about who will deliver first [their due date is the same].We all laugh and smile. Of course it could be because they both are married, their husbands have good jobs, they both have good jobs, their houses are paid for. They will both get to take extended leaves [about 1 year] to be with the babies. And they both are having boys! Life is good!

I never heard that.
I think that been a pregnant teen is awful, but otherwise, people who think pregnancy is bad are just selfish and don't want to share their life with other.

when people think of pregnancy, they think of morning pains and cramps and all the pain u have to go through with the nine months plus the final moments in labor. In reality, pregnancy is a miracle, and people should start to realize that.

Who are these "people"? They must be very unhappy and live very unfulfilled lives.

Children are a joy... It's when they grow up to be unhappy, unfulfilled Adults is when they turn bad and ruin lives..
