How can anybody be happy that WMD's even exist? Of course the ones found were useless, but that does not seem to matter to them.

I don't know that conservatives (I'm a moderate by the way) are happy about WMD's existing but I see that you are missing the point. The fact that these weapons exist in Iraq violate U.N. Security Council Resolution 1441 which required complete disclosure of Iraq's weapons programs and dismantlement of them in a verifiable manner. It doesn't matter that they were "useless", he wasn't supposed to have them and was unwilling to disclose them. This was the major reason the U.S. went to war in Iraq.

What I think conservatives are happy about is the backlash the liberal left-wing may suffer before this years elections. All that "George Bush is a liar" talk may very well have an effect on voters opinions. Remember, the declassified documents released alluded to finds all over Iraq so more detail may come out in the coming months as information is declassified. So its not over yet. Just be happy a guy like Saddam isn't in the WMD drivers seat anymore.

I just have to say I'm a little more proud of everyone in this conversation than a couple others. Although there has been some name-calling here as well.

I think no matter what side of the political field you're on, we all need to stop pointing the finger at each other, and also need to stop blaming each other for the misgivings of those who represent us. Yes, apparently some old chemical weapons were found in Iraq. Guess how many they would find if they searched the U.S.

Guess how much training and weapons the U.S. provided in the first place. Is it possible that we bring this upon ourselves by promoting militarism around the world?

Anyway, I think none of us are really happy about WMDs and whether you think it was a good idea to start a war with Iraq, there is much more that we agree on, and we should really all stop passing judgement on each other, because we didn't make the problem, our politicians did. I don't think any of us want a war, or unnecessary death or WMDs or any of that. Lets figure out how to work together toward a world without those things rather than frustrating each other by trying to place blame on each other. These problems are not our fault. But together we do have the power to fix them.

I don't think it is sick. And I am not a conservative, a neocon or anything else. I agree with you that it is a concern that someone would be happy about it. And I guess for the neocons or conservatives or whatever else they call themselves, it seems like a vindication.

But it isn't.

It has cost us over $160 billion and we still haven't found the Number One guy on the FBI Most Wanted list yet.

The CIA told the President in 2002 that there definitely were weapons of mass destruction. Then the CIA told Congress that they were wrong. There were no weapons of mass destruction.

So, was the CIA right or wrong? And if they were correct in what they told the President and wrong in what they told Congress, does that mean that the CIA lied to Congress?

I think this is just a matter of the CIA telling whomever whatever they wanted to hear.

The weapons found were spent and useless. So, if I find a bullet casing in my back yard, does that mean I am housing an arsenal of illegal weapons?

There weren't very many weapons found, either. And they wouldn't have done to the Kurds what Saddam did to the Kurds with the weapons of mass destruction that he used against them.

I suggest that this means nothing except for policy analysts to attempt to maximize and exacerbate an attempt at vindication that is, with all due respect, insignificant.

Only happy in that with WMD's found, that means Bush didn't lie. I hadn't even heard this actually. But that has been the battle cry of liberals everywhere, why Bush should be impeached; because he said there were WMD's and none were found. Haven't you ever been happy when you have been vindicated, when your enemies have been contending a falsehood about you for YEARS, and evidence has been found to prove you were right all along?

Geez, didn't you ever watch the Fugitive?

The fact of the matter is, Bush could cure AIDS, personally lead the first manned expidition to Mars, and usher in a thousand years of world peace, and it wouldn't be enough for you lib types.

And while I think we could have gone in for better reasons, if Saddam had them, then thank goodness somebody did.

The WMD's we were looking for were not the ones that have been found. The ones we just found were manufactured during the Iran-Iraq war, and we knew about them at the time. In fact, we supplied some of the funds as well as some of the supplies that helped him build them. Why didn't we do anything to stop him at the time? Because Hussein was fighting our mutual enemy, Iran, and we erroneously assumed that he would be less of a tyrant than the Iranians would be. Boy were we wrong.

It's typical that the conservatives are so ignorant of history that they don't know anything about the secret deals Rumsfeld, who was then a diplomat for the Reagan Administration, struck with Saddam Hussein back then. One of the most common responses you heard liberals giving whenever Dubya claimed there were WMD's in Iraq and that we (the U.S.) knew it was, "Of course we know about them! That's because we helped Saddam Hussein build them!"

Being a conservative, I am not happy any WMD exists, but I am relieved that any WMD is found and destroyed before it can be used on any innocent person. This doesn't mean that I am for destroying WMD's that are in the hands of sane, responsible governments, which the USA is one.

Desperate times call for desperate measures. The nut case republicans know that with all the republican corruption charges against dozens of republicans (and a couple democrates) and lies about the Iraq war, they know that recent polls show that most of the country wants the republicans out.
The Iraq war is the biggest disappointment among voters and is a big loser for republicans when election time comes around. Karl Rove has already decided that in order to get people on the republican side they have to somehow come up with a smoking gun. Or in this case a pellet gun.
So they have no choice but to try to make this find (of out dated, useless WMD's) as the whole reason why we invaded Iraq.
When the republicans start to get this desperate you know election time is around the corner.

Sorry to bother you, but can I ask you to cite one specific quote where any conservative has said anything to the effect of "We found WMDs and I'm happy about it!"

I'm pretty conservative, as are many people I know, and we've already started talking about this. None of us are "happy" about it, and none of us are even all that surprised.

It just confirms what every level-headed person already knew -- that Saddam had WMDs.

Yahoo story:

"The intelligence overview published Wednesday stressed that the pre-Gulf War Iraqi chemical weapons could be sold on the black market.

"Use of these weapons by terrorists or insurgent groups would have implications for coalition forces in Iraq. The possibility of use outside Iraq cannot be ruled out," it said."

I'm friggin ecstatic they were found!!! If it didn't contradict your political idols' assertions that "there are no WMD's in Iraq" you'd be happy too!!!!

I wish people would listen to the entire story, rather than the phrase "WMDs were found". They were old, buried, and last night, intelligence officials reaffirmed that the shells were old and were not the suspected weapons of mass destruction sought in Iraq after the 2003 invasion.
